William Seward (US secretary of state) bought AK from Russia for $7.2 million He did pay 2 mil more than he wanted, but it was a rather easy negotiation First called "Seward's Folly", but eventually was removed of the dubious honor |

Fairly successful Roosevelt Corollary (1904) allowed us control over Latin America Military aggression followed in the next 10-15 yrs However, people weren't happy with the amount of aggressiveness, so they pushed for "Good Neighbor Policy" - much more mild (we later withdrew troops from Central/South American Nations) |

Only crucial in WWI - Britain needed us to defeat Germany Most of our attention was focused in Central/Latin America Therefore, US Naval Power was not very important when concerning our relations with Europe from 1901-1922 except for our influence in WWI. |
