what is a temperature control?
any factor that causes temperature to vary from place to place and from time to time
what are factors other than latitude that exert a strong influence on temperature?
heating of land and water, altitude, geographic position, cloud cover, and ocean currents.
how do the heating of land and water differ?
land heats more rapidly and to higher temps than water.
land cools more rapidly and to lower temps than water.
how does geographic position affect temperature?
a coastal location with windward coast will have cool summers and mild winters
a coastal location with a leeward coast will have a more contiinental temperature pattern because winds do not carry the oceans influence on shore.
what is albedo?
the fraction of total radiation that is reflected by any surface.
why do many clouds reflect a signifigant amount of sunlight back to space?
because they have a high albedo
what are isotherms?
lines that connect points that have the same temperature.
