Interactive Question 7.2 Cite some experimental evidence that indicates that membrane proteins drift. A good form of experimental evidence is Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching, aka FRAP. In the FRAP process, membrane proteins are labelled with a green fluorescent protein, and part of the plasma membrane is “bleached” with a laser, causing them to lose their fluorescence. The part that was bleached will eventually become fluorescent again, as molecules drift in by diffusion.…
Pinto beans or in other words common beans are the most abundant beans in both Americans, making it major source of daily nutrients for large number of civilians. This experiment was done to examine if the number of seeds used in a specific area would affect the growth process using two pots (Control, Experiment). Control pot had two Pinto beans, while the Experiment pot had four seeds. Both pots were placed in the same room with same amount of water supply and light.…

Results In the lab, 478 trials were conducted using a total of 956 crickets. The 478 pairs resulted in 264 wins for the resident cricket and 214 wins for the intruding crickets. These results produced a chi squared value of 5.230. The p-value calculated from this lab was .022.…
Materials. Numerous substances in the experiment were used. The most frequently used was the unknown due to the need to test its physical and chemical qualities. When a solution of the unknown was made, 1.000 g of the unknown and 1.0 mL of water was used to make it. To test for the possible ions, 1.0 mL of silver nitrate and 1.0 mL of nitric acid were used for the ion test.…
In this unit of my 9th grade Physical Science, we are learning and experiencing with labs. In this week's experiment, my class did the paper towel lab. Here, we tested the quality of three different paper towel brands, Viva, Up&Up, and Bounty. Each lab group was testing for a certain quality of each brand, such as strength and absorbency. Through different experiments, each lab group came to the conclusion that one paper towel brand had more strength or better absorbency than the other two.…
Following the Ways of the Scientific Method The scientists solved the Elkhorn Coral mystery using the scientific method by following each step of the method to come to a conclusion as to what is killing the coral. The followed the steps precisely so that would not make any errors during their trials. They started with the first step of the scientific method, making an observation.…
The focus of this lab was to identify an unknown organism based on its characteristics and the results from each of the tests. There will be various of test to choose from in order to identify the unknown organism, which will eliminate numerous possibilities and narrow it down to one. All the fundamental skills that we have learned and practiced in the lab will be used to perform on our unknown such as aseptic technique, microscopic examination, the use of differential media, and determining if it’s positive or negative. Performing aseptic techniques is the most crucial step that requires the utilizing of transferring, inoculating, and storing bacterial cultures and media. Aseptic technique is defined as procedures that prevent contamination…
To determine the unknown’s morphology is the first step in narrowing down possible organisms. A MacConkey and Mannitol Salt Agar tests were conducted on the organism and revealed the following. No growth on the MacConkey plate resulting in a gram positive bacteria and the Mannitol Salt Agar result showed it could be Staphylococcus or Micrococcus. (1) A gram stain test was used in determining the shape, size and arrangement of the unknown bacteria (1). The unknown organism is heat fixed onto the slide, in order for the organism to be stained.…
The objective of our experiment was to determine and observe if hydrogen peroxide has any effect on crop seed germination: germination time and number of germinated seeds. We did this by watering our seeds different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. My partner and I tested on three different types of seeds; corn, bean, and pea. I hypothesized that the higher the concentration of hydrogen peroxide added, the higher percentage of seeds will grow in that solution. I also believed that higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide would quicken seed germination among seed types.…
The bacteria used in the experiment are Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Salmonella pneumonia. These all bacteria will be culture in the nutrient broth. The first stage is making Nutrient Broth. Weigh out 5.8 grams of nutrient broth powder.…
The lab instructor issued out a test tube labeled with letter ‘I’, which consisted of two unknown bacteria, Gram-positive or Gram-negative that were streaked from a pure culture. Sterile techniques were followed while performing precise instructions as stated in the referenced Laboratory Manual. Example 1: The first procedure performed was done by isolating a pure culture from the mixture onto a solid Trypticase soy agar (TSA) media. Sterile technique was done by flaming the loop until it turned red to ensure that there were no current bacteria on the loop avoiding contamination followed by rapidly flaming the neck of the test tube to prevent the entry and contamination of unwanted microbes.…
Kishan Patel Section: 008 Pattern: Falling velocity and the dispersal ability of a glider seed varies with its surface area. • Hypothesis 1: Increase in surface area of the seeds decreases their falling velocity, due to greater air resistance o Prediction: Seeds with the higher surface area will have a decreased falling velocity. o Reasoning:…
Hey class, for my science fair, I have decided to do a research and experimental project on how pH values affect seed germination. In order to gain knowledge about the influences of pH values on seed germination, I decided to grow red kidney beans for 10 days with all acidic, neutral, and basic water. My hypothesis was that if multiple beans were to be grown with water containing different pH levels, then each bean plant would have different outcomes in terms of growth because depending on the pH level, the substances within the water vary and may become a harmful or a beneficial influence on the plant’s growth. I was, fortunately, correct and was able to carry out a decent test.…
Germination is the process by which a plant grows out from a seed. The most common example is the sprouting from a seed of an angiosperm, a flowering plant, or a gymnosperm that are seed-bearing plants. For a seed to germinate, few external conditions are in need to be met as well as internal conditions of the seed such as its dormancy, viability and its vitality to sprout. When these internal conditions are met, the external conditions at the time of seed germination plays a big role. First of all, enough water is needed.…
