Zinn V.S Schlesinger
There has been debate going on between Zinn and Schlesinger about Christopher Columbus being a hero or a villain. Both of them had good points. However I agree with Zinn's perspective more than Schlesinger perspective of Christopher Columbus. From what I read I believed that Columbus was more of a villain than a hero due to the solid facts Zinn displayed in the debate. Of course I would be lying if I said didn’t have any convincing argumentative points because he did. For instance when Schlesinger admitted to Columbus wrongdoing yet he tried to justify him by saying ‘ The fact that Heraclitus was right and nothing stands still does not of course justify all the costs of change, especially unnecessary costs in human suffering and destruction. If we are compelled to give this anniversary a balance sheet, those cost weigh heavily against Columbus and even more against those who followed him.” I thought this quote was true I believe that Columbus shouldn’t have only gotten the full blame the men who followed him were as much guilty as Columbus was because they had the choice to walk out when they found out what they were doing wrong or they had the option to fight back or report to higher authorities.
