INDUSTRY- ZARDOZI EMBROIDERY IN LUCKNOW
ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND OF INDUSTRY
Over the period 1994-1995 almost INR 1.43 billion worth of zardozi work was done in Uttar Pradesh which gave employment to 2,18,000 workers. Of this INR 1.43 billion, export accounted for 250 million. By 1999-2000 production had increased by 41.7%, exports by 12% and number of workers had increased by 33.33%5. The exporter/retailer gets the contract and delegates it to Karkhandaars and/or HBW. Karkhandaars are small local production units where Karigars or artisans work.
ANALYSIS OF THE INDUSTRY

MANAGERIAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE SURVEY
1. People are not aware about zardozi. Males are much less aware as compared to females(%age)
1) People are not aware about zardozi. This is higher in males compared to females (give % of males unaware about zardozi compared to females)
Demand = Function of price , advertising etc. Advertising to increase awareness. Special focus n males

2) Demand exists for bridal wear. By projecting zardozi as a bridal wear demand can be increased

3) Regression analysis some globe on data etc
Demand can be decomposed into two parts. One is an elastic demand and the second is an highly inelastic demand part.
The workers can be unionized or even a particular firm can make use of this. Launch two products. One of high quality and other of medium one. The high quality one should be priced at a high rate. Since the demand is fairly inelastic in this part the high price will lead to higher revenue.
As for the medium one since the demand is fairly elastic in this range lower price will result in increased revenue.
