The brain lesions in So Coal Pinnipeds are among several reported causes of their morbidity and mortality within the last few decades. They generally range from traumatic, to inflammatory ( encephalitis) and degenerative brain lesions (encephalopathies). The overall brain lesions in Pinnipeds have been attributed to various microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa) and toxins, some of which are transferable to humans and can cause zoonotic diseases.
