Write An Argumentative Essay On Animal Cloning

Say that when performing experiments on lab rats the results are all random and a proper result cannot be found. Well, there is a way to get those precise results in the form of perfect copies of animals formed in animal cloning. Since the cloned animals are perfect copies of each other on a cellular level, the experiments performed should get more exact results. This is just one of the many uses for animal cloning. People have always questioned the ethics of the subject though when Dolly was first made. Animal cloning can provide us with clear cut conclusions, antibodies to diseases, actual copy cats, and can be used to solve the endangered species problem.

Animal cloning might have some people looking down upon it in the beginning when Dolly the sheep died at five-years-old. Those views however are put away by the many uses of animal cloning in various fields and the improvement of the subject. Most of the uses for animal cloning can be categorized into two different subjects. The first: experimentation, or the way that we can use cloning to find conclusions and remove several uncontrolled variables. Medication, the second division, works to use animal cloning to cure an overabundance of diseases and grow transplantable organs for patients. Although animal cloning is frowned upon by a good portion of the populace, people never really cared about the topic until Dolly the cloned sheep was made by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute. The true potential of cloning began with dolly the sheep. “Animal cloning research, now a rapidly expanding reality in which Dolly the sheep - born seven years ago this week - has been joined by a menagerie of cloned pigs, cows, mules and other animals.”Fiester, Autumn tells us about the very beginning of cloning experiments. Dolly the sheep is the first successful clone of the Animal kingdom. She proved that Cloning is possible and we have an untapped well of information waiting for us. But what exactly can we use cloning for? Well, Metzel Rozie gives an excellent use for experimentation involving clones. “Cloning will allow scientists to alter rat genes with precision. For instance, they will be able to destroy genes to better understand their functions or replace rat genes with human ones to create better models for studying human ailments.” With this we can figure out the source of certain ailments in the human body and find a way to prevent them from setting in before they come along, or better yet, remove the problem entirely. Animal cloning is full of potential to further not only our race, but other races as well. Animal cloning has many uses in the field of medication. Tina Hesman describes therapeutic cloning. “It could produce life-saving organs for patients with no other hope.” That sounds like an excellent reason to continue the research into the subject. Would you ban cloning if it could save

One of the big uses animal cloning can be used for in the future is the Chimera. Jones, David Albert Explains Chimeras like this. “In the science of genetics and within the context of biomedical research, chimera refers to particular kind of admixed organism. A chimera is an organism (including an embryo or fetus) that consists of cells from more than one organism.” The Chimera has the potential to improve the human race on a genetic level and possibly remove most if not all our physical flaws and some of our mental ones. Feats that are thought impossible will now be possible. But what else does science fiction tell us cloning can bring us? Futurism gives a small taste of what we have done and can do on a worldwide scale. “At the behest of the Aragon Regional Government, scientists have brought a Pyrenean ibex - an extinct species - back to life.” this is not the only thing Futurism talks about. It mentions solutions for world hunger in cloned meat, no more degenerative diseases, and even increasing the human lifespan. Luckily it points out that this is not the ladder to godhood as bringing back things like dinosaurs and immortality are still far out of our reach. You could say though that cloning will likely have an Era based around it for the history

Cloned animals can be used to carry human traits that could lead to new developments in medicine. Also this could lead to human cloning, but this has not been legalized so far due to people's ethics. Although this process lead to a success in Dollie’s case, there…

In the article “Ethical Issues of Cloning” by Rita Putatunda explains about the problems of cloning. Copying the genes and making new reproductions of the human is equivalent to “playing God”. The successful cloning of Dolly (Sheep) in 1997 brings many tension upon society and furthers the possibility of human cloning. However, there is a high failure rate of cloning and it may alter the genes of the cloned animal/human. Putatunda questions that the cloning outcome might act as a unique individual or have to live like a genetic prisoner.…

The scientific advancement and the preservation of species continue to help with understanding why animals became extinct in the first place. Just as noted in the article by Carl Zimmer, “De-extinction advocates counter that the cloning and genomic engineering technologies being developed for de-extinction could also help preserve endangered species, especially ones that don’t breed easily in captivity”. The expense of cloning has been a concern. Carl Zimmer later states, “And though cutting-edge biotechnology can be expensive when it’s first developed, it has a way of becoming very cheap very fast”. If cloning can help preserve endangered species and the costs are not so expensive, then maybe it’s a win win for…

Now scientists have used this process of somatic cell nuclear transfer to create clones of nearly 20 different species of animals Scientists do not see a reason to clone humans Instead they plan to use this knowledge to further their studies in stem cell therapy, for example they would use a patient's cells to create an embryo and then they could see how that patient's disease will affect them over time by comparing it to the embryo Dolly lived her entire life at the Roslin Institute until she was put down She had been battling with arthritis and eventually was diagnosed with lung disease Since Dolly was put down at age six and the average life span of her breed is 10-11 years this validated many people’s fears that clones would not live as long as humans Dolly also had four other “sisters” who suffered very similar fates that she did However the Roslin institute is nowhere near done studying this process, in fact they are still in the process of examining the organs and tissue to understand how these animals age Currently Dolly the sheep is on display at the National Museum of…

In particular, however, the issue of the reproductive cloning of animals has been the cause of many debates. The case of Snuppy, a cloned dog, has sparked controversy and this paper will focus on that whilst proving that reproductive cloning of animals should not be deemed unethical. Why Cloning is Bad You are a scientist and you find out that the animal you cloned had defects in its body. Advances in science like cloning are bad because if one animal’s DNA has an error, it could give the other animal a defect as well. One reason I think cloning is bad is because clones could develop cancer.…

Researchers believe that cloning stem cells is useful because there is no need to transfer them from another person, “In 2013, scientists at Oregon Health and Science University were the first to use cloning techniques to successfully create human embryonic stem cells.” (Cloning to make) Now that animal cloning is possible, people believe that it could be possible to bring back extinct animals by using well preserved DNA, “In 2009, scientists had their first near-success resurrecting an extinct animal.” (Reviving) Cloning is useful in multiple ways and it has changed the way scientists work and research, it has allowed access to new methods of research and has…

Along with these new developments, citizens are left questioning the ethics behind the experiment. Almost one hundred thirty years ago, society was introduced to the idea of cloning.
