Rhetorical Analysis Essay: “Me Talk Pretty” by David Sedaris In the text, “ Me Talk Pretty” by David Sedaris, the author reflects on his experience at a language school in France. His reflection is more focused towards his teacher’s unusual and harsh teaching style. The purpose of the text is to not let oppressive people tear you down.…
After presenting and completing my visual informative speech, there were several strengths and weaknesses present throughout my speech. Some of my strengths, with respect to the content of the speech as I did my visual presentation, was that I did a good job with the introduction. The introduction involved introducing my topic and grabbing the attention of my audience. Also, I had great supporting materials and most importantly great organization of my main points. As for the delivery aspect of my speech, according to the video, I had a good posture and used my flash cards very well, which were very helpful in delivering my speech.…
1. The first issue with this analysis is the lack of supportive evidence. Since an analysis evaluates one source in depth, the author should have had more detailed recounts of the evidence he is trying to use to support his thesis. Much of the evidence that was used refers to nonspecific points in the plot, such as: “Michael’s delegation of the task of finding healthcare starts the unproductive process as he was primarily responsible for that task” (Smith, para. 4). The next issue is the lack of citations.…
Go into paragraph and talk about how before white males were in power blah blah and how Lincoln wanted to abolish south leaders altogether and how at first American society was not really a democracy at all and how this info in the whole paragraph is America moving one step closer to democracy. In McPherson’s book, he refers to the economic environment of the South as being a slave reliant one in which it greatly depended on its predominantly agriculture and plantation systems, while the North focused more on equality and the rights of the people. African Americans began demonstrating political resistance and acting out against their white slave owners during the Civil War. When Lincoln came into office, the Freedmen’s Bureau surfaced which…
The article “Miscalculation on Visas Disrupts Lives of Highly Skilled Immigrants” (2015), by Julia Preston, states the State Department and Homeland Security allowed the department to give anticipating immigrants news of them being able to take the next step to obtain a green card. The author provides background information about the situation, along with reasons as to why the incident occurred, and its impact on immigrants. Preston attempts to inform about the episode and provide an explanation to the immigrants involved, through the use of rhetorical appeals. Preston establishes ethos before the article starts, as she is a reporter of a reputable newspaper, which gives her credibility. She starts off her article powerfully by providing context for those who are unaware of the situation; in the beginning of September, the State Department told thousands of highly skilled legal immigrants that they “would be able to advance early to the next step: filing a formal application.”…

Rhetorical Analysis Project: The Future Generation is Over Controlled Civil liberties, or personal freedoms are personal freedoms of thought, behavior, or expression that any authorities cannot abridge by law or by judicial interpret ion without due process. As one of the universal applications, personal freedom-a human right-should not be interpreted culturally or contextually(Franck, 593). For example, China’s Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens claims to protect many civil liberties. The U.S. constitution, especially the Fourteenth Amendment, protects civil rights by introducing a series of clauses. Hence, ideally, citizens should enjoy freedom from forced disappearance, freedom from torture, and also the right to security, privacy…

This movie shows many changes in normality’s. It truly shows what people went through on a daily basis, not just that a generation changed over time. Every day was a challenge to overcome, new ways of learning and relationships coming together or falling apart. People didn’t know how to act or what to say, since the men were gone it was as they missed a section of life and didn’t know how to jump back in. Father missed pivotal points of his children’s childhood, getting to know them as adults, remembering them as kids.…
Works of writing will vary a lot based on the audience and the style of the paper. That is why it is important to adapt your writing to the specific assignment or project. Most of the time I find myself writing rhetorically on accident. Although some instances in high school I remember specific guidelines for example to not use I in papers. This is to adapt to the audience because when you are doing a research paper, the reader doesn’t care about what you think or what you believe.…
I loved reading your discussion post this week. The thoughts you had regarding our chosen county were great and very informative. In Wyandotte County 23.9% of individuals live below the poverty line (Kansas Health Matters, 2017). Sadly we know that when families live on low income they tend to make unhealthy choices because they are cheaper and more readily accessible. Wyandotte County is full of fast food restaurants, liquor stores, and gas stations but they have very few healthy grocery stores or facilities that offer healthy alternatives.…
Reading through the article it is easy to tell that the author is explaining how people can associate happiness more from experiences, rather than tangible items. The essay follows the author as he discusses this idea with professors and researchers in the field of psychology, and presents this through the rhetorical devices of logos and pathos. He provides examples to support his claims, and shows that he is a credible source. Along with this he can draw the reader in as he explains why people have more happiness after an experience as appose to an object purchase. Throughout this article, the author is able to relay his ideas to his readers because of his accurate usage of the rhetorical devices.…
Hi Cathy! You did a good job presenting your speech. However, I would like to give you a few tips that might help the next time you try presenting something. The first thing I noticed was the gum you are chewing. For some people chewing gum seems unprofessional and distracting.…
English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…
In my Persuasive Speech on the topic of Why College Shouldn’t be Free? I felt like my overall speech was honestly pretty genuine and had a really good point of view on the topic that made it very relatable to the audience. If I had to narrow it down to 3 things that I needed to work on it would be: pacing back and forth, rambling and finishing my speech off better with a good conclusion. On the brighter side of things my better things that I did were: Being calm and collected throughout the speech, speaking at an appropriate volume and interacting with the class. For the sake of time and paper I will talk about one of the most important things of each side.…
