Working in a correctional facility can be a challenge and rewarding but as a block officer, it can be a mental drain. Your daily routine is to monitor the movement of inmates throughout the pod. Oftentimes, the inmates will ask for assisting in an issue that the Unit Team is responsible for. Therefore, the officer has to make a note to remind themselves to get Unit Team to address the inmate issue with a respond when time permits. A block officer has to be alert in hearing all announcement on the radio when call out is made for inmate movement, monitor security and deal with the complaint of issue that is not of security. Their job requires inspecting personal items, inmate activity, lock and unlock cell (Schmalleger, F. & Smykia, J. 2016).
