In this brutal war many soldiers would often lose faith and hope rather quickly. They would forget about everything they have to live for like their homes and families and often just give up under the pressure. American women were there to lift up these soldiers and give them to confidence and support they absolutely needed. they give their sons, husbands, fathers, and brothers endless love and support to get through the tragedy and try to return back to them.(national) They would often send letters daily to their loved ones with encouraging words and pictures of the past.

Nurses worked closer to the front lines than they ever had before. Within the "chain of evacuation" established by the Army Medical Department during the war, nurses served under fire in field hospitals and evacuation hospitals, on hospital trains and hospital ships, and as flight nurses on medical transport planes. The skill and dedication of these nurses contributed to the extremely low post-injury mortality rate among American military forces in every theater of the war.
