Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, to Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria, née Pertl at Salzburg. He was the youngest of seven children, five of his siblings died at infancy. Only two had survived. One of his siblings was his sister named Marie Anna nicknamed Nannerl. Mozart showed amazing ability on the harpsichord and violin as a child. Mozart’s father was very fascinated with his musical talents so he decided to take a three-year journey in 1733. They traveled to many European countries to show off Mozart’s musical talents. Since, the journey was such a great success Mozart gained a lot of exposure during their trip and made a lot of connections to the European courts. In 1773, he had been appointed as concertmaster at the Salzburg Court orchestra and had written his first opera, Mithridates. In 1777, Mozart set off on his trip with his mother to try to gain a permanent court appointment. Although, the trip was unproductive. His mother also died in Paris due to an unknown illness. When Mozart returned to Salzburg he began working as a court organist. Mozart despised the position and in 1781 he resigned. He later moved to Vienna where he married his wife, Constanze Weber, in 1782. They had six children, but only two survived
