For many individuals, winter signals a joyful time of the year spent with friends and family. The last thing a family should have to worry about is a catastrophe involving a loved one on the road. Fortunately, there are numerous precautionary measures drivers can implement to prevent damage.
Before traveling, ensure that the battery level is adequate. Batteries tend to dwindle after three years and cold weather weakens the power of the battery, as well. If the vehicle's tires are showing signs of wear, consider purchasing snow tires to use for the winter season. Consider using the four-wheel drive and traction control options to assist with optimal winter driving. Do not start the vehicle quickly, for this could result in the car being stuck. Braking can be a daunting task in winter conditions, but anti-lock brake capabilities diminish concerns. These specially crafted brakes withstand skidding under harsh braking. It is vital to stomp on the brake harshly, and the anti-lock brakes will conduct the rest of the work. Remain on the pedal until coming to a complete stop. Then, navigate the vehicle around the roadblock instead of derailing straight into it. Braking in winter conditions becomes easier with anti-lock brakes but drivers should ensure that their vehicles have this capability enabled.
