All of the traumatic events lead to Strayed’s ambition to leave her life, to set out on a journey through the Pacific Crest Trail. Unlike Strayed, I did not endure any traumatic events throughout my high school career; however, I did have a disagreement with my parents regarding whether or not I should go away for college. At first, my parents seemed a bit hesitant to the idea of their last child leaving for college, but they soon opened up more to the idea once they got a chance to view the campus of West Georgia. Once it had hit senior year, I knew automatically that I wanted to attend college, specifically, the University of West Georgia. Similar to Strayed, I prepared myself with the essentials needed for college; such as applications for colleges, and sending off my ACT and SAT scores to the right locations. All throughout senior year, my counselors ensured that I had all the information needed to apply to colleges to ease the transition from high school to college. Strayed goes out of her way to make sure she has all of the essentials for her journey through the Pacific Crest Trail. Like Strayed, I made sure that I completed all of my college applications prior to the deadlines to ensure my place at the school. While at the University of West Georgia, I have met numerous of people who I have become fairly close with. It is important to make friends during a transition to help ease the move from one moment to the next moment. Strayed says it best when she expresses the kindness she encounters along the trail; “I’d been the recipient of one kindness after another” (296). The first couple weeks in college seemed a bit stressful at first, primarily due to the fact that I did not know anyone. During Strayed’s journey, she is alone at first, but receives some guidance from her peers that she meets along the trail. Albert is one of the major characters within the memoir, who aids Strayed with what is vital to have within her backpack. All along the trail, Strayed encounters different people who assist her in different ways that benefit her trip. At the University of West Georgia, I have recently met with my professors during their office hours, and they have been a tremendous help with my studies. Not only did my professors help me with my transition into college, my advisor, Ms. Keri Allen, helped me in more ways than one. She helped me register for my classes, and ensured that I was transitioning well into college. The guidance I received helped the transition from high school to college easier for me.
