Slavery was an issue in slave states from South and Free states North in 1800s. South states were the agricultural area so they needed slaves and support it, but not the North state. Several disputes exists, Congress performed compromises to settle these disputes. But these compromises could not hold for longer. (1820 - 1861: HOLDING THE UNION TOGETHER)…
After seeing all the effects that states’ rights, the Missouri compromise, abolitionist movement, bleeding Kansas, and John Brown had on causing the Civil War, it is clear that slavery was not the only thing that caused the war. Even though slavery was not always a good thing, it was not only a bad thing either. Bleeding Kansas had a big effect because the north wanted Kansas to be a free state while the south wanted it to be a slave state. John Brown killed innocent people only because they took part in what he was against. While the northers liked the federal union, the south did not, because the government did not abide by the constitution and that angered southerners.…
After the Market Revolution, the United States had a clear economic foundation with the success of the manufacturing in the North and the plantations in the South. The different means of strength behind the North and South fueled the pride of the people and shaped two unique societies. The Civil War was inevitable because the South’s economic and cultural dependence on slavery was confronted by the North’s political strength, the annexation of new states, and the South’s own insistence to expand slavery which all created more change and more disagreements. The differences between North and South made it impossible for there to be a sustainable balance between them; the North had more cities with no need for slaves.…
The outbreak of the American Civil War was introduced by long term factors. Slavery, sectionalism, states 's rights, and secession were significant factors that sparked the American Civil War over unadressed tensions for a very long time. A major…
Slavery and sectionalism were two causes of the Civil War. The South allowed slavery but the northern states were against slavery. In 1860, in the South there were approximately 4,000,000 slaves. In the North, slaves were not allowed. Southerners relied on slaves to work on their plantations.…
The rift between the two movements became amplified after America won the Mexican war and raised the question whether the new land would allow or prohibit slavery. The Compromise of 1850 was used to keep both sides at bay by giving the North and South different benefits just like the Missouri Compromise did in 1820. The North got California as a free state, slave trade banned in Washington D.C., and Texas loses boundary. On the flip side, the South received no slavery restrictions in Utah or New Mexico, slaveholding in Washington D.C., the fugitive slave law, also $10 million to Texas. The best part about this deal for the South was the fugitive slave act, which required all escaped slaves to be returned to their master, even in free states.…
The Civil war was a battle fought between the United and Confederate states of America, launching in 1861. The Civil war initiated, due to the country not being able to come to a compromise on the issue of slavery, and politics. The Civil war is one of the most unique wars in the history of America. Some historians believe the war could be prevented while others believe it was bound to happen. However, I feel that in many cases the Civil war could have been avoided, but the ways things were being handled in the country it was destined to happen.…
During the Civil War, conflict was at its peak. After four years of bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln wanted to swiftly end the war. Lincoln ended the war by giving his famous Emancipation Proclamation speech, which freed slaves across the United States. The 13th amendment was later passed, officially signified the end of slavery. Since African Americans were now freed, they advocated for equal rights and the right to vote, which they got in the form of the 14th and 15th amendments.…
A war was inevitable, because the Union was like a rubberband being stretched to the limit and then snapping. The weight of slavery was pulling the Union apart, and then it finally snapped after no more amends to the relationship of the North and the South were made, until after the war, during…
In order to determine if the Civil War was inevitable, we must first look at what the root cause of the Civil War was. The states seceded from the Union, because they had originally been free and were self governing. Since the federal government started to take powers away from the states, relations between the Southern states and the federal government started to become hostile. Had the federal government allowed the states to be self governing, there would not have been a Civil War, but since the federal government continued to trample on the states rights, they felt they had no choice but to secede. After the colonists fought for their freedom from a tyrannical overarching government, they were free…
The war was destined to take place unless one side decided to back down from the other, which was not going to happen due to the presence of hardliners in both the North and the South. The only way to avoid Civil War was to abolish slavery, the South was not going to let that happen without a fight. They needed slaves in their society and were more than established in their ways. Needless to say, the South did not give up their position on the institution of slavery and they had good reason not to. The Southern economy was basically one of agriculture and the slave population was a very important component to their development.…
Slavery is an important aspect of American history; it has shaped our country into what it is today. The civil war took place from 1861-1865. Without slavery, the civil war would not have occurred. Slavery divided the north and south, the differing opinions on things especially slavery is what led to the American civil war. The south expressed how slavery was beneficial for the whole nation because everyone depended on the southern economy and slavery was key to the prosperity of our nation.…
Civil War Looking back at history, it would be easy to say that if someone had done something differently, then the major conflict would have been avoided. Putting oneself in their position is a completely different story. Most of the people involved in major events in history did what they could to prevent to inevitable. The Civil War was just that: inevitable. The United States was bound to run into the conflicts that it did being a newer Country.…
Slavery was the underlying cause of the American Civil War. After the Republican and abolitionist Abraham Lincoln won the election in 1861, southern states became afraid of his political believes. His election caused major discussion in the southern states, that depended on slavery. States were preparing for secession because of the new president’s future actions. These states were very dependent on agriculture and abolishing slavery would certainly hurt them.…
A main cause of the Civil War: Did you ever hear of a war without a cause? Almost every war in history has had a reason for its outbreak. The Civil War had many brinks that led the nation to battle but they all had a common thread, the issue of slavery. Slavery began in the early sixteen hundreds in the colony of Jamestown.…
