Why Shouldn T Juveniles Be Tried As Adults

I believe that juveniles should not be tried as adults in the justice system because the prefrontal cortex is not fully developed until the age of twenty-five. This is responsible for people’s critical thinking and decision making from logical reasoning rather than emotionally. Another reason why juveniles should not be tried as adults is that from people’s teenage years to when they are in their late tweenties and mid-thirties, people drastically change and are much more aware of whats right and wrong. The final reason why juveniles should not be tried as adults is because it puts these kids up for abuse and fails to reduce crime. Many juveniles are sent to jail for life without parole and no rehabilitation programs, so these juveniles end …show more content…
They also state that “ the brain cells and connections are only being lost in the areas controlling impulses, risk-taking, and self-control. These frontal lobes, which inhibit our violent passions, rash actions, and regulate our emotions, are vastly immature throughout the teenage years (Thompson, 2018). This demonstrates that throughout the teenage years of a person, their brain is still developing and maturing. It further proves that these juveniles are still just kids and still don’t know any better because their brains are formulated that way. Another reason juvenile’s in the justice system should not be trialed as adults is due to the fact that from people’s teenage years to when they are in their late tweenties and mid-thirties, people drastically change and are much more mature and aware of whats right and wrong. According to the article, “Beautiful Brains,” a NIH project that studied over a hundred young brains growing up showed that our brains undergo a massive reorganization between our twelfth and twenty-fifth years of our

I don’t think juveniles should be placed in adult prison. It causes to many problems for younger kids to be surrounded by negative influences while they are still developing mentally and starting to mature. It causes problems with depression and making them think that some behavior is acceptable in a society outside of the prison when it isn’t. The depression leads to acting out which causes disciplinary actions that are to serve in prison than they would be in a juvenile facility.…

Open Letter Juveniles account for twenty-five percent of major crimes in the United States. Many people claim that juveniles are underdeveloped in the mind, which is true. You would have barely been starting your senior year of high school, and maybe have gotten your first car. Even though it is on the verge of adulthood, this period in life is still characterized by being adolescents, and making stupid decisions. Juveniles should not be tried as adults, regardless of the crime because of the loss of gray matter, and immaturity of the teenage brain and the environment surrounding them.…

Juveniles should be tried as adults only for certain types of crime like murder, rape, etc. Many minor’s waiver to be tried as an adult because they are getting more benefits in court. If you are being tried as a minor, you don’t have the right to appeared before a jury. In many cases the juries are in favor of the minor, because they’re just kids and that’s how they see them. In my opinion, juveniles being tried as an adult is the right thing depending on the crime committed is, because it will be harder for the minor to be found innocent, if they’re not.…

Juveniles should be punished as adults for violent crimes because justice is what is most important when it comes to our community being hurt. There are many reasons why juveniles should be punished such as a child’s brain development, social justice, and the amount of violence and effect on victims. People often misunderstand a child’s “undeveloped brain” with a decision they make. The truth is, if the undeveloped brain was to be on a child, the number of violence would increase. An underdeveloped brain is not the answer to violence.…

Also juveniles are more easily influenced than adults are to do criminal activity by their peers. Juveniles by law commit deviant acts not crimes. Therefore, young children who have committed a deviant act should be rehabilitated to not become a criminal, but to get them out of the crime route. Also if a juvenile is transferred to adult court, they are looked upon as a really bad criminal and should be punished harsher than an adult who committed the same crime. As a society we should try to rehabilitate the juvenile so they become a productive member of society and not just put them in the criminal system.…

This is a part of the "raise the age" movement(Eckholm). Why should juveniles be tried as adults? Juveniles should be tried as adults if they want to make their own mistakes, so they will have to pay for their mistakes. Which Juveniles should not be allowed to have the death penalty. The reason I think that is that children should not be tried as adults and get the death penalty, is that no one should be killed because of their mistakes.…

The first reason why juveniles should not be tried as adults is because their brains are not fully matured. It is proven that the amygdala, which is a part of the brain, is responsible for very strong emotion, which is not developed during teenage years. For example, in the case on the PBS website where 15 year old Jacob killed his mother and stepfather because of the emotional and sexual abuse, he acted upon impact and out of his emotions for how he was feeling about they way they treated him and caused him to be emotionally. Therefore, if teenagers do not even have control over their emotions, they act without thinking and do not necessarily realize the possible consequences. An adult is able to handle events in a more calm and mature manner unlike teenagers.…

Heinous crimes are committed in the United States everyday. Just about one-half of them are committed by adolescents ages 11 through 18. After they committed said crime, people feel they should be tried as adults rather than juveniles because some people view “if they can do the crime, then they can do the time”. Juveniles should be rehabilitated rather than imprisoned, a second chance at life in society. Trying these children as adults is unjustifiable, there other ways that our officials can turn to, to help someone's life for the better.…

Before this unit, I thought that juveniles should not get adult sentences because kids are immature and that sentences like imprisonment and criminal records for violent crimes destroy the juvenile’s life and his chance to change. After this unit, I discovered that many of the reasons I used to support my position were invalid arguments, therefore, I found out that I do not have enough evidence to support either side so therefore on this subject I remain neutral and undecided. I discovered that a juvenile aged between 12 and 17 is mature enough to know that violent crimes are a wrongdoing and are to be avoided. So it is an invalid argument that juveniles do not deserve adult sentences because they do not have a moral compass. In fact, juveniles do have a moral compass and know that violent crimes should be avoided.…

Should Juveniles be Tried as Adults? NO! Juveniles (under the age of 18) should not be tried as an adult; they should be charged and tried in juvenile court; this is why there is juvenile court. It is ridiculous that because of the Columbine shooting, the government decided to declare “war” against any juvenile criminal—they are children, not fully developed in any area (physical or mental).…
