Why Is The First Amendment Important

The First Amendment, otherwise known as Freedom of Speech, is the most important right of a citizen. The First Amendment protect citizens’ political and religious freedoms by allowing citizens to speak openly, to write in the press, to assemble, and to petition the government. Freedom of Speech is vital to a democracy. Citizens need to be able to express their thoughts and opinions without fear. In order for the government to be effective, citizens must be able to participate by voicing their concerns. The political and religious freedoms protected by the First Amendment ensure that we are a tolerant nation with diverse ideas.
