America, land of the great, home of the brave; America the beautiful. There are certain rights and services that cause people to believe these sayings. For example, there are increased services for veterans and people in poverty. There is also freedom of speech and other rights that we have. However, this is not enough, not even close. My vision for America is dark for the reason that most of our “great country” has no respect for non-humans and treat them like trash; most of our citizens have little to no knowledge ,and often dismiss, rape and abuse; and often try to put themselves into other people's lives and make decisions for them based on their own beliefs. My first reason for why America’s future isn’t bright is due to how little respect we have for animals. For example, animals are treated horribly and killed in such ways that if people actually knew …show more content…
Some ways that they kill animals in factories is that with pigs they shove them all into a room and drop the floor to kill them all painfully with electricity and sometimes it doesn’t even completely kill them. With chickens, the males or babies they throw them into an actual blender hundreds at a time just because they aren’t fully grown or females. All of this just to feed our voracious appetites. Also, animals are put on display for our entertainment. Take tigers in circuses, for example, did you know that they are deathly afraid of fire, yet they’re whipped and forced to jump through hoops of it because we find it entertaining. Another example is animals in SeaWorld, probably one of the places I loathe the most in this world. Orcas at SeaWorld have been found to have collapsed dorsal fins, claw marks on their body from other males since they’re raging out on each other while they’re caged in, and extremely worn down teeth since workers drill holes in their teeth. Today America misrepresents themselves as a land of freedom and we all live the “American Dream”. In reality we live in a world with racism, hate, and social hierarchy based on the color of your skin. David Walker's appeal during the 1830, gave a rallying point for the rebellion against slavery. It created a path for many African Americans such as Malcolm X and Henry Highland Garnet to speak out as well. When most people think of America they think of greatness, which I definitely would not dare to disagree with. In fact, we as a nation have been incredibly blessed with amazing things and opportunities that so many others just get to dream about. We have conquered so many obstacles throughout history that it almost seems as if some would not dare touch us. Although, we seem to have it all figured out from the outside looking in, we have a lot of failures that we have had to face including Woodrow Wilson’s leadership during World War I. He did not have one stand out moral failure, but several failures that make his leadership during this time an over-all moral failure.…

Basic civil and human rights, availability of education without the fear of debt are visions of America I want to see. Civil rights include the ensuring of peoples' physical and mental integrity, life and safety; protection from discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, national origin, colour, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or disability; and individual rights such as privacy, the freedoms of thought and conscience, speech and expression, religion, the press, assembly and movement. Human rights are moral principles or norms that describe certain standards of human behavior, and are regularly protected as legal rights as laws. They are commonly understood as inalienable and which are "inherent in all human beings" regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other status. They require empathy and the rule of law and impose an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others.…

I am writing to you, Jeremy Rifkin, today to talk about the article that you have written “A Change of Heart about Animals”. In the article you talk about how animals do have at least basic human feelings and if not more. That “many of our fellow creatures are more like us than we had ever imagined”. That we should do something about how we treat the animals around us. I absolutely agree with you and think we should treat the animals around us differently than we do now.…

The practices and methods, of killing animals that goes on in the animal farm, needs to be Changed. Pollan states that”… to ensure that farm animals don’t suffer and that their deaths are swift and painless (374) Such practices are not the natural way of rearing this animals. Animals can feel pain, the process of making them go through this pain before they are killed is not necessary. The animals should be treated and cared for in a respectful manner and they should have a healthy living environment where they can be free to move around stretch and interact with their physical environment. This will free us from the guilt that we inflict pain on animals when we kill them for meat if we adopt this change of using a more human (painless) method of killing…
