Why Do Kids Get Trophys

At a young age, a child is put into sports or activities to occupy their time or get an interest of it. During that time, they will receive trophies or certificates for participating. This have brung a lot of controversy around the topic on if a child benefits if everyone on the team receives a trophy. Kids benefit if everyone receives a trophy on the team. It will make the kids feel apart of the team. That child will have a confidence that he or she may not have had before participating. Also, it can stop other kids from bullying them and will avoid any conflict that will approach. That is from working hard and having a good mindset. Also, the kids will have good sportsmanship. They will give each other compliments so that one may not feel less than another. Good sportsmanship will make the kids know what they have given their all and tried their best. Bowen stated that “this encouraged the kids to try to make a great play instead of trying to avoid making a mistake” (1). Even though some kids may expect to receive a trophy each time, however that is the parent job to teach them that the trophy is for participation. The parents are the example for kids that not all trophies define you every time. Another thing, that they are different awards for different positions on the team. Parents should always encourage kids to try their best for the best results. As shown above, kids do benefit from trophies. Every kid deserve a right to feel like they have participated on a team.
