Why Become A Biomedical Engineer

Discipline is an intellectual virtue that drives me to improve myself every day. My discipline is composed of parts work ethic, determination, and foresight. My discipline was created within me for several reasons, my grandfather’s death, the work ethic gifted to me from my father and football, and an unwavering will to make a difference within the world. The reason I will help people was made when I lost my innocence. My family had to take care of my grandmother who was dying of ovarian cancer. The day before she passed away, we found out my grandfather had glioblastoma. It fell upon my family to care for him, and I had to watch him slowly deteriorate into an unrecognizable state. This initial step led to another and another until I found myself on the path of becoming a biomedical engineer. The daily choices I make are motivated by this desire to help others. This created the foresight and resolution I have used to make life choices. Latin, for example has pushed my limits as no other subject has done before. It has never been my strongest subject and not only have I continued to stay with the language I also have strived to do my best and have improved immensely throughout the years. This subject has created the need for good study habits, a necessary tool for college. My discipline not only drives me in my academic pursuits it has also manifested as work ethic in in my extracurricular activities such as football. Although football has never been a natural talent for me, I have developed myself through rigorous work inside and outside of the program. I have taxed myself to the point of breaking each and every season not only because I wanted to get a starting position, but I wanted to excel at it as well. My growth within football is not only a physical one. Not only have I been able to understand the new offences and defenses, I have been able to
