b) Outline the theories made by the various scientists, including their atomic structure and evidence they used to determine their atomic structure.
Over many centuries, various theories were made by various scientists based on their own representation of an atom.
The idea of atomic science was originiated …show more content…
He placed each electron in a specific energy level and based on the emission and absorbtion spectra being exact opposties, (Discovery of the atom, 2018) he proposed that electrons orbited in only at a certain radius, and that each orbit only had a specific amount of energy. Electrons could orbit without losing energy, (Lucarelli, 2014) but gained or lost the energy to jump between the levels (Discovery of the atom, 2018)
In 1926, an Austrian physicist used mathematics to produce the quantum mechanical model of an atom. This model predicted the location of an electron (Abcte.org, n.d.) as Erwin Schrodinger uncovered the fact that you cannot state the exact location of an electron. Then became the electron clouds. Regions in which you are more likely to find the electron (Discovery of the atom, 2018) based on where the cloud is denser there is more likely to be electrons (Abcte.org, n.d.)
James Chadwick discovered the presence of neutrons in 1932. He identified that they accounted for half of the atoms mass. He realized the existence of these when he bombarded Beryllium with alpha particles. This emmited a unknown radiation which Chadwick assumed to be what is now known as a neutron.
This is the also the current model of elcetrons and atomic structure. The electron cloud has become a basis for our current
