World War 1 started on July 14, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918. This war was between the European countries, but two countries were to blame for the start of the war. Austria-Hungary and Serbia were responsible for the start of World War 1. Austria- Hungary and Serbia’s conflict caused World War 1. Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro- Hungarian throne and was very disliked by the Serbians. Bosnia and Herzegovina were added to Austria- Hungary in 1908, but these countries wanted to be independant and a part of newly formed Serbian Nation. Serbia and the Turks fought 2 wars and in the end Serbia lost its independence. Franz Ferdinand decided to travel to Sarajevo to inspect their military, but June 28 when he visited was the same day the Serbians lost their independence to the Turks. This ultimatum was a list of demands to avoid war, but the Serbians didn’t want to accept. The Serbians offered peace instead of the ultimatum, but Austria- Hungary rejected it and declared war on July 28, 1914. This began the 1st world war. Soon after Austria- Hungary declared war, Serbia asked for help from Russia to fight against the Austrian- Hungarians. Russia then moved its troops to the Austro- Hungarian and German border. Germany saw Russia’s move as an act of aggression and declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914. After this many wars were fought between the European countries. Germany declared war on France, Germany invaded Belgium, and the British declared war on Germany. In the end, all European countries were fighting against each other because of Austria- Hungary and Serbia. This was the start of World War
