The dead parachutist in Lord of the Flies “was a speck above the island, a figure dropping swiftly beneath a parachute, a figure that hung with dangling limbs.” (Golding 95). The adult world had sent a message to the boys showing how the adults are just as savage, if not more, than the boys on the island. The boys see the dead parachutist as a “beast” that is lurking the island because they haven’t actually seen it yet; they only see the figure on top of the mountain. In all reality, it actually is a beast because this message from the adult world shows how the adults are beasts or monsters while waging war on each other.
