Othello is the classic story of a man driven to madness by his own thoughts and assumptions. Written by William Shakespeare himself, this play involves all sorts of drama. Like most of Shakespeare’s plays, Othello is a tragedy. In this play, Othello’s love, jealousy, and betrayal eventually lead to his inexorable downfall.

Sentences- Act I proves That Othello and Desdemona love each other. “pg. 15” This is just one example. Brabantio at one point mentions that it’s unusual for Desdemona to run away from home. “pg. 19” This shows that Desdemona wouldn't run away for just anything and Othello is a big deal to her. Brabantio accuses Othello of enchanting Desdemona into loving him because he can’t believe that Desdemona would fall in love with a “Moor”, thus showing how unusual their relationship is. When Othello and Brabantio travel to the Senate, the accusations are repeated. “pg 27” Othello has to explain that it was Desdemona who pursued him. In reality, though, Othello had been betraying himself throughout the whole play. He betrayed himself by believing Iago’s lies and deception. An example of this is when Iago says “pg 149” and Othello replies “pg 149”. Although Othello is the title character, and his situation is the main conflict, Iago is more key to the plot and to the audience because he double-crossed everyone. Othello commits the biggest act of betrayal when he kills Desdemona. This act is so horrendous because Desdemona had been so loyal to him, even to the final breath “pg 203” She doesn’t even tell Emilia that she was murdered. “pg 217” When Othello finally realizes the magnitude of what he has done, he understands what is wrong with him and kills
