History
Where was England? It is 1492 Columbus leaves for an exploration to find a western passage to Asia. Which was funded by Spain. But one question that arises from this is : Where is England? Jamestown wasn’t founded until 1607, but England obviously still existed back then, but where were they. After Christopher Columbus discovered the Caribbean Islands. A rivalry between Spain and England began for power over the islands and the territory of America. This fight for the land lasted for over 150 years. One of the biggest wins for England during this time was defeating the Spanish Armada. The Spanish began to colonize America during the 1490’s. By the late 1500’s England realized that they also needed to start creating colonies in America and created their first colony in 1585 on the island of Roanoke. This island soon failed because they depended on the Native Americans for food, but when the Native Americans learned they wanted their land they cut off the food supply for the colonists. Most of these civil wars were caused by a change of religion, fight for power, and a change of queens. England was part of Catholic Church until 1534, when Henry VIII declared that he will be no longer part of the Catholic Church and made the English Church which was protestant. Henry VIII created this new church to annul his marriage with Catherine of Spain. Then he married five other women because he needed a son to take over the throne. The people of England liked Catherine the best out of all of the queens. The frequent changing of queens caused rebellion and civil wars. During civil wars it is hard to fund journeys to new places. This prohibited England from exploring the new land of
