Are phones connecting us or disconnecting us? Phones are becoming more and more apart of everyone’s everyday life. So much that is becoming problematic in many different ways. On one end of the spectrum phones and technology give us information on the spot and can connect us with anyone around the world, and on the other they are killing our creativity, social skills, and the ability to be ourselves.
Phones and more specifically social media allows us to connect with people around the world never before, but is social media actually desocializing us? That's how I see it. Phones have made being alone or bored seem like a problem. When we feel one of those feelings we pull out are phone and check social media or do something. This is problematic because “by being in constant connection, we lose the capacity to feel content in our own company (Document 1).” A lot of people are using it as substitute for real face to face time with their family or friends. Not only that but phones can be a bad influence for many children or can create serious cyber bullying. Think about this, if we all connected by social media and other things through the internet, it results in globalization of cultures. It waters down culture into one norm. It also waters down people, it kills their creativity. True identities are destroyed because social media makes us feel like we have to fit in. Our smartphones are called smartphones because they are genius little pocket computers. Although the way we use them isn’t so smart.
