In the book, Persuasion by Jane Austen, Austen’s book took place in rural Somersetshire in the eighteenth century. She also had scenes that continued into some from cities in rural Somersetshire, which are three locales in England. These three locales are completely different cities, with completely different living styles and very informative historical things to know about these cities. Around the time of publication of this book, England was a completely different country from what it is now. During the 18th century, there were two different country life in England, which is that of the rich and that of the poor. Lyme Regis is given this name because it is on the mouth of the river Lym, “torrent of water”. Lyme Regis is only 17 miles away from Kellynch Hall. Lyme Regis is “a historic unspoiled seaside resort and fishing port on the world famous Cobb harbour. Surrounded by beautiful coastlines and countryside, the area has now been awarded World Heritage Site Status; famous for its geology and fossil finds”. (Lyme Regis, 2014) The Cobb which is the harbor wall and had a lot of recognition in Jane Austen’s book Persuasion. The Cobb is internationally known as the place where Louisa Musgrove fell from steps known locally as "Granny's Teeth", in Jane Austen's novel "Persuasion". The author of persuasion, Jane Austen loved Lyme due to all times she and her family visited. She lived in The Cobb in 1804, hence a chunk of the scenes in persuasion took place there. Lyme would have been a naval center for the Royal Navy. According to the book, Persuasion, the life of a sailor was great back then because their battles were successful, the navy was doing better than the army back then. Men from the navy had always lived clean and organized at sea, it became habitual to them even when at home. Lyme is a city filled with natural settings, very seasonal, tourist attractions, downtown and lodgings for naval families, which proves how great of a person they are, with good working ethics and good morals.
