This may aid the development of Gender Dysphoria. Family dynamics and relations can have an impact on a child’s image of self. For example, if parents project their desire for a daughter on to their son then the child may incorrectly label their view. Also in families with only one parent present, a child only observes the characteristics of that parent and is not exposed to a different gender. Prenatal exposure to high levels of androgen leads to the development of congenital adrenal hyperplasia for females, this does not mean these individuals will later be diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria, however, they do tend to demonstrate gender atypical behavior. For adolescents the most common treatment is hormone suppressors. Their job is to stunt development of natural secondary sex characteristics. To achieve the characteristics of the desired gender people may take cross-sex hormones, this means natal females begin taking testosterone and natal males take estrogen. A treatment for adults is sex reassignment surgery. After surgery, female-to-male individuals functioned better in many respects than male-to-female individuals, possibly due to cultural standards and violent crime against transitioned females. However in one study, 87% of male-to-female surgery recipients were still satisfied with their outcome. In most instances physical changes are not enough to cure Gender Dysphoria. Psychiatric and somatic care is recommended even after sex reassignment
