There are many sites to see all over the world that are very interesting and have a lot of history behind them. For example, the pyramids in Egypt and Big Ben in London, England. Lets focus on just one part of the world that I find very fascinating. This place is called Paris. Paris is located in France and is actually the capital. Paris is well known for many things such as the Eiffel Tower, shopping, Art, and many more things. In this paper, I plan on going into great detail about some of the sites in Paris, France. The main thing that everyone wants to see when they go to Paris is the Eiffel Tower. The tower was named after Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and started building on January 28, 1887. Construction was complete until about a year later. The Eiffel Tower opened on March 31, 1889 for the public to view. To this day people can go visit the Eiffel Tower and even go inside of it. There are three main levels of the Eiffel Tower for observation. You can either get to these levels by stairs or an elevator. The Eiffel Tower is tall enough to see from almost everywhere in Paris. The next big thing people go to Paris to see is an art museum called The Louvre. This art museum is very famous for many different paintings, but the main painting everyone wants to see there is the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. This painting was placed in the museum in 1797. The painting was actually stolen from the museum on August 21st, 1911. The painting was later found and resumed its position in the museum.

The painting today is worth about $780 million in the United States. This painting is actually guarded with high security. So many people go to see the Mona Lisa that it is actually kinda dangerous because people fight to get to the front of the crowd. This museum has other famous art work such as the Venus de Milo. Venus de Milo is a statue of a woman with no arms. The Venus de Milo is an ancient Greek statue. It is often thought to represent Aphrodite, a Greek goddess, because of the unique beauty of the woman presented. Venus de Milo is made out of marble, which means that the statue can be damaged very easily. The Louvre holds many different types of art work with statues and paintings being the main kind. Another site to see in Paris, France is the catacombs of Paris. The catacombs hold over six million peoples remains including Madam Marie Curie and her husband Pierre Curie. They were both very famous scientist. Madam Marie Curie discovered radiation and actually died from radiation poisoning. Pierre worked with Madam Marie but actually died in a horse carriage accident. The catacombs are saved for people like Madam Marie Curie and Pierre Curie, who have made huge discoveries or differences in France. Some other people buried there are Princess Élisabeth of France, Maximilien Robespierre, Georges Danton, and last but not least Jean de La Hire. Inside the catacombs, it is very cave like but very clean as it is a respected place so just remember to be very silent as you make your way to other important sites in Paris,

The Colosseum and the Chartres Cathedral are considered to be two of the greatest architectural constructions. By comparing and contrasting the Colosseum with the Chartres Cathedral an understanding is gained of how architecture has not only improved throughout time but also changed during different historical time periods. The Colosseum is a freestanding structure of stone and concrete, constructed on the principle of the round arch (Wold, Martin, Miller, & Cykler, p. 65). Both structures are not only known for their architectural inventions, but also for numerous sculptures and its much-celebrated interior design, and ability to hold a substantial amount of individuals.…

Paris may be known worldwide today as ‘the city of lights’ and home to the unmistakable Eiffel Tower that dominates the city, but there was once a time when Paris was a medieval town, with ancient buildings and streets. Prior to the drastic actions of Georges-Eugène Haussmann to modernise the city, the river Seine was the centre of commerce. This was until his boulevards became the new highways of the city. Haussmann’s renovation of Paris took place between 1853 and 1870, and saw buildings like the Passage du Clos-Bruneau be replaced, or covered by Haussmann buildings. He planned to create and expand an array of new avenues and boulevards, and did so at the cost of medieval buildings and ancient streets.…
