Although, there are currently 25 states in the U.S supporting the use of medical marijuana, including Washington D.C, there is still a rising question as to why we need this on the market and what could be the adverse effect since it is? Marijuana has been known to heal and help the sick but also be used for other purposes. With the exception of recent decades, cannabis or marijuana has been used for medical purposes throughout history, and due to the low number of adverse effects and the variety ailments that cannabis can help treat, it should be legalized for medicinal purposes.

According to the California Society of Addiction, “In one recent study, 97% of heavy users of marijuana reported driving a car while intoxicated(Terry and Wright 2005). Many users justified their ability to drive by comparing the effects of marijuana to the effects of alcohol. Marijuana does cause less dramatic impairment than alcohol intoxication, but it has nonetheless been associated with a 2-3 fold increase in accidents on the road (Drummer, Gerostamoulos et al. 2004; Ramaekers, Berghaus et al. 2004).” Marijuana is known as a gateway drug that can lead to the movement of a user to other harmful substances, tho it is not an addictive drug its usage has potentiality sparked the users to follow a pathway of other substances that can become hurtful to the human body. The role of cannabis is in a sense to ease/distract from any pains or central neurological messages that result in sending negative or distress signal messages to the brain.
