Firstly, when the guy introduced himself, my friend knew that what distance and situation between Jersey City and New York City look like, that is about making sense. Then, he related those two American cities to his hometown and Hong Kong and told us, this is about sharing sense. At last, through his examples, the receiver immediately understood the correlation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, he crated meaning in this communication. What’s more, he also applied the first communication principle well because he is mindful of his communication. As text book said: “Mindfulness is your ability to get out of your own head and into other’s head.” My friend knows that using some examples and terms which the receiver is familiar with would help the receiver to interpret the message. He got out of his head and into the receiver’s head. Also, he is conscious of what motivates him and others. He used Jersey City as examples to motivates the receiver to respond, because of Jersey City is that guy’s hometown, people usually are willing to talk about their hometown. The easiest thing for me to do is observe other’s nonverbal language and adapt my messages. That is my strength. And the hardest thing is to put me into other shoes. My friend is doing well, he is so mindful and cognizant which always thinking about the receivers. I can improve it through practicing, like communicating with different people who have different cultures, gender, and backgrounds. It can strength and diversify my awareness to different receivers. Also, noises always influence me during the communication, my phone will distract me a lot during the instructor’s speech. Although turn off my phone is the most efficient way to avoid such situation, there still some methods to practice myself to avoid noises in meaningful ways. Like making eye contacts with the instructor, concentrated on his speech, and take notes. Become a mindful communicator is very important and useful, we can send our messages more efficient and make sense to others. It’s not only helpful for our daily communication, but also for our future
