What I Learned When Enhancing Critical Thinking Essay

The first concept I learned when enhancing my critical thinking in chapter nine is the fair-mindedness which is a trait of a critical thinker involving respect for others, willingness to hear and understand different viewpoints on an issue, and an openness to change when new information or insight warrants change (Diestler 2012). For example to me it means a standard that I acknowledge my limits of knowledge and I think independently think through my questions and problems I have to solve myself. I also consider other people’s perception in order to precisely reform their views. Egocentrism is the indidvual version of ethnocentrism, the tendency to view everything else in the relationship to oneself, one desires, values, beliefs, and actions seem to be evidently correct or superior to those of others (Diestler 2012). When it comes to emotional reasoning I start to think and cause negative feelings to myself. An example would be I have an exam coming up so I start to study for the exam I always get nervous specially when I failed the last exam. In my state of mind I get really nervous and I have major test anxiety because I feel like I don’t understand the material that I am guessing because of my nervous and anxiety get in the way of my performance on the exam.
