If I had to choose one phrase to describe myself it would be, “Above and beyond the call of duty,” or as I like to say, “A and B the C of D.” It’s something I read in a book a long time ago that has always stuck with me. I strive to do my best in order to achieve my goals and exceed expectations. In high school, I always tried to take advanced classes because I wanted to challenge myself and learn more complex ideas. I enjoyed learning with peers who, like me, wanted to get more out of their educations. In the end, all of the hard work I put into school paid off when applying for college and being able to graduate with honors. I believe that receiving an honors education will open more doors for me in the future and also make me more competitive when applying for internships and jobs. …show more content…
Along with substantial income and good benefits, working for the Bureau makes for a challenging yet rewarding career. It is one way to protect and serve this country that greatly appeals to me. However, a job with the FBI can be extremely tough to gain. There are many requirements to meet, tests to pass, and interviews to sit through. On top of that, thousands of applicants put in their resumes each year, so just getting selected to be interviewed can be difficult. Anything that makes you stand out from the other applicants will help during the decision making process - something that is true for just about any job. Although I am very interested in working for the FBI right now, I could change my mind and instead want to follow a different career path. Whatever I end up doing in the future, receiving an honors education could only help

What is the right course of action regarding the eleven million people who are currently living in the United States on an unauthorized basis? This has been the question that has been debated frequently on the news, as well as amongst ourselves. Not only did the selection of texts in the honors curriculum expertly display many different kinds of honor and the way they may be achieved but also provided us with some insight as to where the liberal education system we participate in originated from. We begin to gain a deeper understanding of education in earlier times through The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci, here we are introduced to the “prevailing scholastic classification of the human knowledge according to which the seven Liberal Arts represented the highest form of human effort” (Di Vinci, 193). This list of classification brings light to the particular topics that were the most valued forms of learning in that early days of the renaissance. “They included grammar, rhetoric,…

I think that as Honors College students that are so focused on what career paths we want to follow, and maintaining a 3.5 GPA, we forget that there are other young adults our age that didn’t choose the same path. Let me explain. We live in a world where the societal norm is to graduate high school, and then go to college. However, new reports are finding something rather interesting. An obvious question is: What is meant by 'privileged' and 'entitled'? Given definitions, one could perhaps study the question and decide empirically if those groups are indeed disproportionately represented. If we assume for a moment that they are, then the question becomes "why are they disproportionately represented?" I speculate that one reason for raising the question is because the students in the Honors College are disproportionately from wealthier backgrounds.…
