Elizabeth Cook-Lynn’s Dakota heritage is at the very core of all her writings. It’s not a question of the degree of cultural influence because her culture determined and shaped Cook-Lynn’s life experience. “Death of the Author" is not an optional scope when reviewing Cook-Lynn’s work, because living as Dakota woman has affected every aspect of Cook-Lynn’s life. Relatively meaning, that the audience cannot exclude Cook-Lynn’s heritage when critiquing her work. One major criticism about Cook-Lynn’s work is her tone.…
Sebold uses Susie’s omniscient narration to show the readers Abigail’s past and present through flashbacks, so Abigail becomes a more well rounded character so that the reader can understand and empathise with her despite her adultery. This makes Abigail a dimensional character rather than someone the reader dislikes due to participating in an activity people would commonly see as sinful and morally wrong, instead Susie represents Abigail as misunderstood, lonely and desperate. This is clearly shown through the psychological point of view of Abigail which illustrates how broken she feels, and is in juxtaposition to her spatial point of view, where she is committing a sinful act with confidence and assertion. Sebold uses triplication of…

"I'll tell you why,’ she said. ‘Because—he—is—trash, that's why you can't play with him" (Lee 301). Aunt Alexandra is incredibly direct about the things she says. She wants to get straight to the point, so everything will go her way. Through out To Kill a Mockingbird, Aunt Alexandra has come off as an elitist and exceedingly demanding, but as the book progresses Lee illustrates her supportive side.…

One way Elizabeth Laird illustrates betrayal is by showing what people can be capable of, good and bad. For example, Maggie, a poor farm girl just trying to survive in the big, scary world almost seems to bring along destruction with her, wherever she goes. It doesn't help when Annie, a privileged servant, always seems to come along with the problems. Annie likes to use her charming and mercy tactics to win people over then turn them against Maggie. And when Maggie and her grandma get accused of being witches and using witchcraft, Annie finds a whole other way to turn against Maggie all over again.…

An Inspector Calls explores the concerns of wider society contrasted with selfish individuality. The playwright J.B. Priestley hated the attitude of viewing the lower class as different people, and Mrs. Birling is a woman who has this attitude. She is a cold and selfish woman who is out of touch with the reality of life. Throughout the play she remains the most self-centered as she demonstrates no responsibility and no remorse.…

The local competitor awkwardly stared as she stood still. “A woman of class, high monarchy and power should not compete with people so low! And that brings me to my opponents on Smackdown Live. Ever since I stepped in this company, I have made it my goal as the one and only Red Queen, to take over this company, one step at a time! Yes, people came and people left, but I am still here and I have no intent to retreat because all that hard work has a price!…
Known as the mother language, Yiddish was common and a symbol of traditional life in the household. Speakers considered it to be rather feminine due to its prevalence in usage of non-scholarly individuals. But because most people were not scholarly, the language connected most Jews together and kept them from assimilating to the new world. Language is a basis for culture and culture creates connections in societies. Yiddish helped Jews keep their traditional culture by giving them a way to communicate and spread traditions orally without having to be educated.…
