Similar to how “What a Wonderful World” was intended to make light on the turmoil in society at the time, The Ramones had a way of spinning social issues into absurdity and they were a fun band that never took themselves too seriously. In 1996 the band split up and Joey set out to record a solo record. At this time Joey was sick with lymphoma and was in and out of the hospital while recording this album. Its amazing that even with such a deadly form of cancer he was able to record the joyous vocals for his cover “What a Wonderful World.” That all boils down to how light-hearted and carefree he was as a person. His cover of this song displays how happy he was at the end of his life. Ramone sings the lead vocals, Daniel Rey plays the electric guitar and sings backup vocals, Joe McGinty is on the keyboard, Andy Shernoff is on the bass and also sings backup vocals, and Marky Ramone plays the drums. Together they turned “What a Wonderful World” into a rocking and touching
