We’ve all heard about the Reconstruction Era and what its effect on the United States was. The Reconstruction was started by former president Abe Lincoln. The Reconstruction's purpose was to bring the Union back together and bring everyone together as one nation rather than a nation split in half. The Reconstruction took place in 1865 and lasted until 1877. This era has been implemented in American history forever. Recently a lot of discussion has arose debating whether the Reconstruction was a failure or a success. While if you look at the successes from that time period, you may think it was a success. But when you look at everything that resulted from it, you would know it was a complete failure and everyone

According to Eddie Wong, “laid the foundation for future struggle” (Eddie Wong, Our splendid failure). This shows that because of the Reconstruction and what resulted it led to our nation today and African Americans still struggling to this day facing racism. “Republicans generally lost the political will to continue fighting for the cause” (Aimee Landwehr, End of Reconstruction Era Overview & Causes | When Did Reconstruction End?) This is so important to think about because the Government lost the will and energy to fight for the freedom and equality for African Americans, which led to community led groups such as the KKK taking over and massively hurting the African American community in the United States. They murdered and showed great amounts of violence as a way of intimidation to stop black members of the community from voting or doing any other normal activities a white person could do.
