Payton was born on July, 25th 1953, in Columbia, Mississippi. Payton married Connie Norwood and had 2 kids, Jarrett Payton and Brittney Payton. Payton was very active in his youth. He participated in his local church and Boy Scouts. Growing up, Payton’s parents did not have a lot of money, and his father was an alcoholic. Payton’s biggest obstacle was his disease, known as primary sclerosing cholangitis. Primary sclerosing cholangitis or Psc is a chronic liver disease in which the bile ducts inside and outside the liver become inflamed and scarred, and eventually narrowed or blocked. According to Pro Football Of Fame, Payton won the NFC rushing title five straight years from 1976 to 1980. He also led the NFC with 96 points in 1977 and won the NFL kickoff return championship in his rookie 1975 campaign. He was named both All-Pro and All-NFC seven times and played in nine Pro Bowl games.
