Walt Disney Productions is a diversified international company engaged in family entertainment and community development. The business activities of the company were divided into four segments: theme parks, films, consumer products, and real estate development. The Disney strategy was to form these segments into interlocking pieces of a portfolio, each supporting the activities of another.
Theme Parks and Resorts
There are 3 theme parks that operated by Walt Disney Productions in 1984, which were located in Anaheim, California; Orlando, Florida; and Tokyo, Japan. Disneyland Park consisted seven principal or themes: Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Main Street, and Bear Country. The strengths for Disneyland

Before the Walt Disney Productions diversified their business into four business segments, they are the leader in the American animation industry. In that time, the Walt Disney Productions was merely involved in the produce of film and television productions. Thereafter, they expanded their film and television production divisions, and created the Walt Disney Pictures. The unique value along with competitive was the company produced movies and television products for release under their own label as the Touchstone label. They don’t need other company to help them for producing the movies and television products. Furthermore, the company’s cable network group was operated their own Disney Channel. The Disney Channel was provided 19 daily hours of entertainment through cable-system operators. The film that produced under the Walt Disney Pictures was the live-action feature film, and this was new in that time and it become popular among films. Besides, compare with their main competitor, Warner Bros, Walt Disney Productions was not doing as well as Warner Bros. This is because Warner Bros was the biggest film studio at that time compare with the Walt Disney Picture was just formed. The main purpose for this acquisition was to prevent the takeover by Saul Steinbery. But after the acquisition with Arvida Corporation, Walt Disney Productions also owned and controlled of 17334 acres of land in Florida, Georgia, and California. This help Walt Disney Productions increased their asset valuation. Furthermore, the company also can develop the land in the part of Disney’s plan such as expansion of the themes parks, build more studios or retail store.

In conclusion, Walt Disney Productions has created unique value along with competitive and strategic advantage in the marketplace. The four business segment that operated by Walt Disney Productions was also in the top position among all the competitors.
