Voir Dire in French “to see to speak,” is the questioning of prospective jurors by the judge and attorneys in court. In the role of the juror Voir Dire is used to determine several factors:
If the prospective juror is biased
Can deal with the issues fairly.
If there is cause to not let the juror serve based on relation, knowledge, occupation on any other factor that could prevent a fair decision.
Attorneys also like to get a feel of the personalities and views of the prospective panel of jurors. The judge may ask most of the questions and may dismiss jurors. The attorneys may excuse jurors based on information as well.

You pay a set amount of money to be released from police custody after you are booked or processed into custody. If you can’t afford to pay your own bail you can use a bail bond agent. A bail bond agent charges a 10 to 20 percent of the total bail which is a non-refundable fee. The agent agrees to pay the remaining amount to the court if you fail to appear for your court proceedings. In New Jersey, we now have the Bail Reform and Speed Trial Act. This act largely eliminates bail for minor crimes in order to reduce the state jail population. Instead of assigning a cash bail the courts use a risk assessment tool to determine if a defendant should be released pre-trial. The assessment takes many factors in to consideration such as defendant’s age, prior history, nature of offense, pending charges, failures to appear in court, etc. If prosecutors disagree will now have to argue as to why the defendant should be held. The new reform also enacts limits on the length of incarceration. For instance, prosecutors now have 90 days to indict a defendant and a trial must then be scheduled within 180 days. Defendants must also make their first court appearance for arraignment within 48 hours of their
