Vitiligo
Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease that affects a person in which they’re having the destruction of melanin in their body. This will lead to the loss of pigmentation. The loss of pigmentation in the skin is due to the melanocytes (melanin) which forms white patches on the skin. This disease can affect 1 in every 100 people in the Unites States (2). This skin disorder can affect both males and females of any race. We have a few different insights to why and where the disease may start in a person. It normally starts in a person when their autoimmune system begins to attack the melanocytes in the body. Also, it can derive from heredity from generations of their family or parents having it. It affects men and women of all ages. Making sure that one knows their family history of this disease can help them know more soon and maybe even be tested to check to see if it is a possibility in their life. It is always good to try and keep progress if you do have the skin disease to help your doctor help you. There are a few different ways as mentioned to acquire the disease, yet is mostly family passed through genes. Although it is a disease we haven’t found a cure for there are prevention and creams that can be uses to slow down and make the white patches less visible for those suffering from Vitiligo. Although it may seem to some that this is something that they will always be stressed out about, we are all beautiful in our own ways and we need to remember the couple famous people as a source of inspiration such as Michael Jackson and Chantelle Brown-Young (1).
