What I find most confusing is once I have ideas, how to put them together. I always need help with the organization of my writing. I feel like without an organization is really easy for the reader to get lost. When it comes to getting everything organized and put together I like to ask an instructor about it and that is what usually works for…
When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…
I do this in order to gain a clear understanding of what the paper is asking of me. Next, I consult all the materials given, or collected by me, to begin to form an idea about what I want my paper to state. Then I start my outline. Outlining is a pretty simple process for me it usually includes headings that state the main idea of the paragraph with bullet points of supporting detail.…
In regards to my writing process, there have been some central strategies that I have developed over time and some strategies that I have had for as long as I can remember. For example, one skill that I have developed from high school has been to annotate, mark up, and take notes throughout my readings. I found that taking notes really helps me, not only to remember what I read but to go back and be able to point out something in my reading easily. In addition, it helped me understand the readings better.…
I have always been intimidated to write papers. I want to learn how the just get all of my thoughts onto a piece of paper and have all of it makes sense. Most of the time when I write I get all of my ideas down but it never flows together and never makes sense. It gets very choppy and the transitions are terrible.…
Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…
After using them for several of the writing assignments for this course I realize how helpful some of these writing exercise can be. Using an outline to organize my thoughts and the primary focus of a paper helps me keep my paper on track and in line with the thesis statement. Freewriting was another concept that I used in the past, however not to its fullest effect. Breaking down sections of my paper and free writing on those individual sections really helped me overcome writing blocks and explore new ideas I might not have thought of otherwise. Working more extensively with rough drafts really removed some of the stress of my writing assignments.…
Habit-wise, I am familiar with the drafting and editing process, nevertheless whenever I write anything, I outline and make a list of key points I would like to address and then make sure I incorporated all of them. Each key point…
My writing process is similar to the typical high schooler, except like the typical high schooler I have no idea what my process is. Having to slow down and think about your process before writing can be complicated due to the fact that I am thinking about what I doing naturally. Hopefully I will be able to fully break down my process and use what I learn from that to improve my writing. My process starts with me focusing on a prompt whether it’s given to me or I have to create one myself.…
The most crucial step of my writing processes is letting my mind go wild and my fingers move freely. Whenever I write anything, I always let myself write whatever is on my mind at that exact second. Even if it doesn’t make 100% sense or isn’t exactly on topic, I’ll type it out. When I was writing my essay, I didn’t stop to fix anything until the very end. When I finished writing, I looked for mistakes.…
I like to create charts and outlines about the topic and then turn them into sentences that I will put in my essay. This method works for me because when I do the diagrams or chart I already put things in order from the start and all I have to do after is put it in a sentence. What I do is little similar to what Anne Lamott described in her article but she seems to have better results than my…
If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…
I really enjoy highlighters and sticky notes. I use different colors of highlighter to keep information together when I find it relates. It helps when writing papers from textbooks, because it gives you a guideline of what it will say. You can just follow along and if you get stuck, just move on to the next highlighted phrase. Sticky notes are wonderful if you have a question and would like to go back to it.…
Most of the time we used planning maps or just wrote down a few ideas and went on from there to write our papers. We never really spent a whole day on planning and putting our ideas on paper like most English classes. I also never really annotated my books when I read them because I don’t understand what annotating does. Most of the time my English teacher would tell us what to annotate or highlight or circle. If my teachers would of never told us I would probably rarely annotate because I don’t see the point of doing it.…
The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
