Visual Observation

I sat cross-legged on the soft rug adorning my bedroom floor, assessing the blank canvas before me. My paints lay scattered all around me in no pattern at all, strewn across the floor like leaves gracefully dropped from a maple tree in October. The white face of the canvas whispered countless ideas in my ear, and intricate designs flew across my vision. They fought each other for attention before my mind settled on the one that spoke to me most. I quickly studied the spectrum of paints at my disposal before I selected a few and squeezed them onto a palette. Using a brush, I began to lay down colors strategically onto my canvas, watching my vision unfold itself before my eyes. The paint arced across the surface, as stark against the white material …show more content…
I feel it in my heart: the way the colors complement each other and contrast in such beautiful ways. In school, art classes were always my favorite part of the day. I hungered for more to learn and more skills to acquire. My whole life, I’ve been sensitive to the colors that surround me. I feel as if colors and shapes are a language of sorts, and I possess the ability to translate them to the rest of the world through my art. Though I can naturally interpret colors, I am always in need of more ways to express them. I observe the world around me as it turns to its own rhythm. I study the way people move and the way nature interacts with its surroundings, and I learn from the things I see. In school, I took classes that taught me new mediums and new skills. I used the internet to teach myself skills I could not adequately learn through school. I broadened my horizons and added new tools to my belt so that I could express myself in even more ways. I learned to go beyond simply drawing with a pencil; I could paint and sculpt and work digitally as well. I can speak the language of shapes and colors more fluently, and I hope to hone these skills even more in my future to convey messages clearly through

Half Caste child (1957) This artwork depicts a young white girl in clinging to an older black man while a black woman is crying in the background. This painting has a historical theme because it shows a child of mixed decent during a time when this was a bad thing. The lack of care she seems to get from the older man helps show this. This painting was painted after the Australian assimilation project when aboriginal people of mixed decent were to be assimilated into white society wether they wanted to or not.…

The first time I ever painted with acrylics was in the waiting room of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The room, although spacious, well-decorated, and illuminated by dancing rainbows of light from the stained glass windows, was Hades. Empty chairs surrounded me, a deafening silence enveloped, ringing with disquietude. I felt small. That is, until the sound of the metal door hinges unapologetically scraping broke the leaden lull.…

Nice observations in your post this week! I felt that Malico did an excellent job in describing the experience in such a way that it engages the reader. They can see it in their mind; and the sensory descriptions she used were enough so that a person could imagine the sensations of them. The article made me wonder what it would be like to take a punch with hundreds of people watching. Boxers fight for sport, but not for survival.…

The production of the play Almost, Maine performed by students at Florida Southern College is an overall “A”. Though it is not the greatest or the most memorable play that has been produced on the Buckner stage, but it nonetheless was a well performed and routine work with portraying the rise and fall of love through the magic of comedy and heart-break. The actor whom stood out the most to me was Joey Hedrick portraying Dave in the final scene, “Seeing the Thing”. Joey Hedrick as Dave, showed his super objective of trying to finally get the thoughts out of the love oblivious, Rhonda, by a simple painting of a heart signifying his proclaimed love for her. His beat-to-beat objective shows an eagerness to go into her house, which he has been…
