At first glance of the masterpiece of Vincent van Gogh, even without the name you automatically think of night time. The first thing I notice is the tree at the right side almost reaching the top of the canvas, took me a minute to realize it was a tree because Van Gogh gave it a wavy almost flame like curve. I like this piece because its abstract and I’ve always been drawn to like the abstract expressions of art. I like the way paintings look when they don’t necessarily try and mimic reality, even though he is painting his observations by using a mental image and he uses elements of abstraction and does not try to mimic reality in full. This painting is really easy on the eyes because he uses short heavy brush strokes, with more detail in the …show more content…
He also gives great importance to the moon, he makes it into a nice crescent with a very bright glow around it. Even though there are not that many stars in the painting he gives them their own little glow and it takes a second to realize there are mountains in the background. The tree that is in the foreground looks as if it is dying I don’t know if this is representation of a dark feeling that Van Gogh was having, or maybe he just felt that there needed to be something to stand out amongst the fullness of the night sky. I feel like Van Gogh took on the role of showing us exactly what he saw but in a non-realistic way, he based it on a true place he imagined it in his head and put it to paper. He did not want to do an actual real life picture he did it from his thoughts so his perspectives and proportions were distorted, as if he knew it wasn’t supposed to look like it did but wanted to express it in that way by making certain objects bigger and noticeable. I feel that the most important lines are the big thick wavy brush strokes of the night sky and the flame like tree in the foreground of the

Color: The painting has a combination of complimentary colors that give the piece a warm look. For instance, the yellow and orange provides light to the composition and also add a visual depth to it because both colors reflect the scheme of a peaceful night. In addition, the blue in the sky beautifully portrays harmony throughout the painting, and the black in the background perfectly contrasts with the blue in the sky and the circled white brush strokes…

Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. I chose this painting because it has always been hanging in my Aunt’s living room.…

The piece was made with oil based paints on a canvas that was about twenty-nine inches by thirty-six and a quarter inches. Starry Night was not like your average painting during this time period. The brush techniques that Vincent Van Gogh used broke the norms of the art society during that time, stroke patterns like the once in Starry night were unprecedented and quite frankly, society didn't appreciate his style at the time. While the art society during Van Gogh's life did not appreciate his style, modern day art society admires it. In fact, many current artists have been inspired by the techniques used in Starry Night, and many artists have tried attempted to recreate the piece, or pieces that resemble it.…

Vincent van Gogh painted “The Starry Night” using oil paints on canvas in 1889. A student appropriated his artwork in order to modify the original meaning, modernize the work, and display an extravagant view of a New York City skyline. “The Starry Night” and the student’s artwork share many visual evidence qualities such as color, shape, contrast and form. “The Starry Night” utilizes a blue color scheme in order to allude to feelings of sadness. There are many curved, swirly shapes that make up this scene and give the impression of a lively, mobile sky.…

On top of this list are color, lighting, shadows, and lines. The colors, without a doubt, seal the effects of the work. The ingenuity is above reproach. Instead of a disgruntling pattern, the artist have done the opposite. In “Starry Night,” the blend of the demure colors is more than troubling.…

Van Goghs message in this portrait was to show how difficult his life was. Not being able to afford models he painted himself, adding to the effect that he is not a wealthy man with a difficult life. He displays this message in the portrait with restless intense brush strokes and stark contrasts of color. This combination of painting style suggests ups and downs with drastic changes in his life. He also shows himself very pale like a ghost and a very skinny complexion suggesting he was very poor.…

While drawing this masterpiece, Van Gogh reached unprecedented heights in the depiction of a night sky. Carefully observing the painting, we can most certainly say that reproducing reality was not what he set out to do. We can admire the use of two dominant colors: blue and yellow. The night is predominantly depicted in blue, a color that can be used both light dark shades without loosing its intensity. Rather than choose a larger number of dark shades, he elected to paint primarily in blue in a range of harmonizing tones.…

His color choices give the main focal point (the tree) and the focal area (moon) lots of emphasis. The moon being the brightest value and the tree being the darkest value and the hills being in the middle of the composition and value spectrum, make a unity for the background, middle ground and foreground. The Moon and stars show the time of the piece being night time. The perspective we are given for this image makes the proportions of this image pretty accurate. If Van Gogh had not used the addition of reds in this image it would be a very muted cool piece and with the use of all the nature it would be unbalanced.…

Introduction This week digital field trip was a review of the artist Vincent Van Gogh. The painting of choice that was inspiring by Van Gogh is called The Starry Night painted in 1889. Content Vincent van Gogh painted Starry Night in 1889 during his stay at the asylum and used vivid colors for expression. Vincent painted this oil painting in France where it’s “plagued in the winter months by the mistral, strong winds that blow day after day out of the Alps down the Rhone River valley. A formal visual analysis of ‘Almond Blossoms’ will give information to the viewer, besides one’s visual observations. This painting is an impressionist painting because it was completed in the 19th Century and has many qualities other pieces in this art movement included such as, visible brush strokes, emphasis on light, and the inclusion of movement. Colors play an important role in this piece as they make the tree and blossoms to become more prominent and show the importance of spring.…
