Venus's Dependence On The Phase Of The Solar Cycle

Decent Essays
Venus is well known to have no intrinsic magnetic field. Instead, when Venus interacts with the solar wind, a fast mode magnetosonic wave, in this case a bow shock, is formed as the wind impinges upon the ionosphere. [Russell] As the wind passes over the ionosphere, it is slowed down and a region of ``shocked" solar wind, the magnetosheath, is formed. The properties of the bow shock at Venus show particular dependence on the Mach number from the solar wind, as well as dependence on the phase of the solar cycle. The phase of the solar cycle has been observed to vary the distance to the bow shock from the

The two sculptures, “Venus of Willendorf” and the Minoan snake goddess, are both similar and different in many aspects. They are both showing their breasts, which is considered to be a symbol of fertility. “Venus of Willendorf” is smaller than the Minoan snake goddess by about 10 inches because it was made to carry around, but the snake goddess wasn’t. They’re both seen as fertility figures, but I find that the snake goddess was seen as more powerful and stands tall, while Venus is more feminine and soft. They both begin the start of women depicted in art and fertility figures.…

The Soviet Venera 9 and 10 missions were extremely successful missions that gave us the first images of the Venusian surface. According to russianspaceweb.com, the Venera 9 and 10 spacecrafts were well equipped with plenty of scientific equipment in order to collect enough data for the short time it will be able to function. With all of this equipment, Venera 9 was able to tell us that the surface of Venus had a temperature of 459 C, a pressure of 90 atmospheres and measured a surface radiation level of 100 W/m^2. Venera 9 only lasted 53 minutes on the surface of Venus, which demonstrates the extremely hostile environment, which the numbers above also show.…

Throughout the course of human history and during many different societies, women have been treated as subordinates to men. A recurring theme between civilizations is that men are the superior sex, and a woman’s main role in society was to bare offspring. Although Muslim societies are not the first societies to have a patriarchal hierarchy, they have some of the most prominent male-dominated societies that persist into modern times. The role of real women in a genuine Islamic society can be observed through Rafea Anad’s life in the documentary Solar Mamas; however, Disney’s Aladdin also provides another fictional yet sometimes accurate depiction of a women in a similar Islamic society but from a different socioeconomic background. Muslims live…

However, the coronal mass ejections (CME) — clouds of protons and other charged particles — that follow the flares within about 20 minutes can disrupt our satellite systems, GPS tracking devices, and power grids. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the September 6 CMEs were powerful enough to black out both high-frequency radio waves and low-frequency communication used in navigation, for about an hour, on the sunlit side of Earth. However, the slight inconvenience is well worth it, given that when the electrically-charged particles enter the earth’s atmosphere and collide with gases like oxygen and nitrogen, they spark auroras. The incredible light shows are typically observed closer to the northern and southern hemisphere poles because the Earth’s magnetic field attracts the particles toward them. However, the recent powerful CMEs lit up the skies across northern latitudes and could be seen all the way from Finland and Scotland in Europe to Kansas and Ohio in the US.The occurrence of the flares just as we are moving into a solar minimum, the quietest period of the sun’s 11-year periodic activity cycle, is causing some concern.…

“Galatea vs. Birth of Venus” From the detailed hands of antiquity, both the work of Botticelli and Raphael speak to the ages through near perfection. So often the work of the Renaissance brought new life to the classics, reminding us of the footprints of humanity. Seen in both “Birth of Venus” (ca. 1482) and “Galatea” (ca. 1513), the theme of divine love is portrayed through the mythical ideals of the feminine form. An ode to nature through the sexual sense of the female nude, both works glorify the pinnacle of life, that which gives life itself; woman. Inspiring through bright, light primary color palettes, pyramidal and dynamic compositional cues in one-point perspective, and an overall sense of fantastical whimsy, these classic renewals…

One painting that really caught my eye is the painting Jupiter and Thetis by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (Getlein, 2016). This painting was inspired from Homer’s Iliad, “The Greek epic of the Trojan War (Getlein, 2016).” Without knowing what it really means you can tell more or less what is happening based off of the artists creativity. From first sight, you can see A man sitting in a throne which depicts royalty.…
