How long have you been working on this project? How much longer would it take? Would having twice the amount of people working on it help reach your goal faster? If you didn’t accept their offer, you’ll probably still be grasping around for more information. You may wander around working on that project for years searching for that last bit of information you need, and find out they’ve had it the entire time, and were looking for the information that you had. What if they develop the vaccination before we do, and now you don’t even have a small share in that victory. Where is your dignity and self esteem now? It’s not determined that if you don’t accept their offer of collaboration you’ll develop the vaccination first. Sharing success in developing a vaccine for cancer is a small price to pay to help put an end to cancer. Even if it were a country you didn’t have the best relations with, working on this project together could help bring your country and theirs closer
