Vacation To Outer Banks

Improved Essays
Vacation to the Outer Banks of N.C Our plan is to start packing on Wednesday and leave the following Friday at 6am. My idea is to get out early to fill the car up with gas and get ahead of some of the traffic. By packing in advanced I will have time to check and be sure I have not forgotten anything. Also packing a few days early will keep me from being rushed and possibly leaving important items behind. Other than the obvious items that we must bring like; cash and credit cards, reservation documentation, entry tickets, clothes, and personal items, we plan on bringing our medications, phone chargers, small tool kit, emergency first aid supplies, rain gear, and some bottled water and snacks. You never know when you might have a minor or major …show more content…
We also plan on giving our family a schedule and list of where we are staying with phone numbers and addresses in case our cell phones don’t have reception or are lost or damaged. I had checked my fuel mileage in advance and calculated that my average gas mileage was 28mpg. After we choose our route and stops, I made a map and calculated with internet tools what our total round trip mileage should be. I estimated 800 miles round trip, and at my vehicles mpg it should take 30 gallons to get us there and back. I then figured in an extra 5 gallons for the increased weight of the car and a little extra for idle time and possible detours. Since the current average price per gas in N.C is $2.14 and not knowing what it will be next July, we calculated the price of fuel to be $2.50 at the time of our trip. Based on that price times 35 gallons of gas, we budgeted $100 for gas. We should arrive in Hatteras at our first stop which will be the Harbor Deli around 1pm, just in time for lunch. Their menu is within our budget as is all of the other restaurants that we have choose for this trip. We decided that since we were on vacation, buying food and eating in the motel was not for us. However we are not planning on getting the “Captain’s …show more content…
After all, we are on vacation, so I plan on relaxing and having a fun time. After lunch we will be driving the short distance of about 1 mile to the Hatteras - Ocracoke Ferry. This is a free ferry service of NCDOT and we have checked the schedule ahead of time to see when it arrives and departs. It should take about 1 hour to get to Oacracoke Island where we will make the 12 mile drive to visit the lighthouse. This is also free and it should be since it’s for only for viewing and not entering. We choose to visit the lighthouse on the first day because we knew we would be tired from driving and since it would already be in the late afternoon we would not spend as much time here as we would at the Wright Brothers Museum. After our visit at the lighthouse we will be dinning at Captain Puddle Ducks. This was an easy choice as it is within walking distance of the lighthouse and their reviews were good. We both should be able to have a nice meal for under $50 total after reviewing their menu online. After our meal we will travel the distance of 1 mile to Edwards of Ocracoke where we will be staying for the night. Their normal rates for one night are $106 but since this was a holiday weekend

For me, personally, Red Lobster is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. One of the main strengths of the restaurant is its price range. All of the menu items are between $15 and $25 depending on the size of the meal or the amount of individual items that are ordered. Red lobster’s biggest up-selling menu selection is arguably the four course meal special. This combo consist of a salad, your choice of soup, choice of seafood platter and a dessert option for a grand total of only $15.…

My biggest ambition in life is to travel to new destinations I have never been, but I must have my husband by my side to savor the adventure together. We ended up taking my friend Nicks old Buick La Saber, it was on old beat up four door car but, we decided that it was probably the best choice since my car was a two door car and it was way too small for four people on that long of a road trip. We quickly learned that taking the Buick was a huge mistake. As we were driving the car would get close to overheating and we had to stop several times to let the engine cool down. Also as we were driving the power steering would slowly lessen. This was because there was a leak in his power steering lines.…
