Unjust Trials In The Crucible, Arthur Miller writes about Giles Corey, a real man that lived during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. The court executed Giles Corey for not turning in his friends. Eventually, the church exonerated Giles Corey. Similarly Jesus Christ, the son of God, executed for his proclamation of divinity, encountered the same tribulation as Corey. While both trials are unjust, their actions reflect courage and compassion. The Salem Witch Trials took place in Salem Village, Massachusetts in the spring of 1692. The trials were a series of court proceedings held for accusations of witchcraft (“Salem Witch Trials.”). Tituba, an African American slave from Barbados, who tended to Betty, is the first to be tried for witchcraft.

After a total of four months nineteen adults and two dogs were hung for witchcraft. The town of Salem was made up of mainly Puritans. The Puritans have a very strict religion and the members are required to attend church on Sundays and to be able to interpret the bible or they would be frowned upon (“The Puritans”). They believed in a real sense of a divine God, with the fear of sin and divinity. When the court suspected a witch they immediately sent out a warrant for their arrest. There are several ways the court would use to determine if the person is a witch on included, “Spectral Evidence”. Spectral evidence is a form of evidence based on dreams and visions (Miller, Laura M). The accuser would then give a testimony explaining why or how they have witnessed the person as a witch. Another method used is the touch test, the touch test was performed by the accuser touching the accused, if the accuser cried out they were under a spell, the accused would automatically be considered a witch. At the age of twelve, Jesus wanted to help others understand the purpose of their Father 's house. His compassion for others is also shown through the many miracles he worked in the Bible; when he fed the five thousand with two loaves and five fish, when he turned water into wine, when he healed the blind man, and when he healed the leper. All these things Jesus did portrayed his compassion for each and everyone. The leaders of Israel could not watch Jesus continue to work such great miracles and start to win over the people. Because they knew their leadership would be taken over, so they sentenced Jesus to the death penalty. Jesus was sentenced to death by the religious leaders of Israel, but the Romans were the ones that actually crucified him (Holy Bible). The crucifixion all began when they took Jesus to their Roman Headquarters stripped him and placed a crown of thorns on his head. They began kneeling before him, mocking him saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” (Holy Bible) and spitting on him countless times. Normally prisoners are forced to carry their own cross to the crucifixion site, but Jesus, too weak from the beatings received help from a man named Simon. Undergoing extreme amounts of pain, Jesus was fixed to the cross by securing nails in his hands and feet. Even through all this pain, he still chose to die for all of those who have sinned.
