Unit 4 Healthcare Administration Research Paper

Improved Essays
The assignment for unit four has asked that I write a paper outlining some of the key highlights and notable points about the profession that I have chosen to pursue. The more I study and review the career field of a Healthcare Administration, the more excited I get about the possibilities that potentially await me. There are many different types of work that a person could get into with this particular field, but I am going to focus mainly on the Healthcare Administrator field as it pertains to a hospital or clinic.
When a person chooses the vocation of Healthcare Administrator they have basically accepted a lifestyle that will for a time require a tremendous amount of time and effort in order to be successful. This person will spend long hours in the office completing all types of paperwork for regulatory items and then after they leave the office, go to a community function and promote their organization. By community function, I am talking about a Chamber of Commerce event, school function, or a city commission meeting. All of these events are meant to bring awareness of healthcare and the benefits that the represented organization can offer to the community that they serve. The next day, the administrator may be back at the hospital before the sun comes up in order to deal with an issue that arose overnight at the hospital or clinic. Essentially, this administrator has a very full plate of work that must be completed in order to be successful. For a Healthcare Administrator to be successful, he or she must be the type of person that can juggle many different work items at once. The administrator may be signing checks one minute and while they are doing that, a doctor may walk into the office and have a serious issue that must be taken care of and all the while the phone is ringing. The type of personality that the Healthcare administrator possesses will assist them in their work. This person must be able to calm people down when a person is frantic or scared. They must also be able to be empathetic and show sympathy to a family that is watching a loved one’s health slowly slip away. The Administrator must also maintain a firm composure in order to make certain that the regulations and policies, which are in place, are being followed and upheld. There are going to be times in the Administrators career that he or she will have to suffer through a barrage of negativity from the community they serve when someone or a group of people feel that the healthcare organization is not doing everything needed or possible to promote the health and well-being of the community. This is where the Administrator must put on a smile and go to work to remedy the situation at hand and be able to sort through a lot of emotion in order to relieve the tension in a meeting or anger of a patron that feels they have been wronged. This Administrator must be able to ascertain what the true issues are and fix them while also repairing a relationship with the community organization or person that is affected.

There will be many times when the Administrator will have make hard choices that are not fun to have to make, but are all the while necessary to carry out
There are several different types of certifications that a Healthcare Administrator may receive. The actual certification and credentials that the Administrator has earned represent the passion for knowledge and the ongoing commitment to the organization and the employees that the Administrator is serving. The learning curve for this career is ongoing, and a personal commitment is necessary in order to have continued success. The certification process typically starts with a degree program and will most of the time require some work experience. Most of the certifications will require some ongoing or continuing education to some degree in order to stay up to date with the most current standards and regulations. The administrator must be prepared to put in the time and effort in order maintain the credentials they have earned. By earning some of the different credentials, they have set themselves apart from
