Reflection On Ethical And Professional Competency

Great Essays
Two competencies I feel I have excelled are competency one to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior and competency two to engage diversity and difference in practice. In competency one I feel I was able to complete these competencies so well by using my experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant working in a nursing home, a hospice agency and a hospital. The past eleven years I have spent in the medical profession has taught me some core values in acting professionally and ethically. I have realized the importance of treating each individual with professionalism. I have realized that at times you are coming into your clients lives at some their worst moments in life and you need to be the professional to be able to analyze and deal with the situations properly and professionally. From the very beginning I understood that dressing professionally was something that I felt was very important. I feel that when you arrive at someone’s home or if you are at an agency where they might come to your office you need to look and acts like a professional. I always think that if I was a client needing assistance from a professional I would not feel that they were competent to assist me if they were wearing sweat pants and t-shirt for example. I have always tried to put myself in their shoes, if this was me or if this was my grandma they were taking care of, how would I want to be treated? How would I want her to be treated? With child protective services and the foster care system, I knew that it was very important to treat each individual with an open and non-judgmental mind. I also was able to see that speaking to clients with a professional tone was vital to help the communication process and to help educate different clients. When working with the parents of CPS and Foster Care children I began to realize that a lot of them had mental disorders that at times could be difficult to handle. I realized very quickly that when dealing with these clients you have to remain calm and speak with a appropriate tone to control the discussion so nothing gets out of hand. I helped assist a CPS worker with a emergency removal and when dealing with the biological father he became extremely agitated with us and was using some inappropriate language towards but I was able to stay calm and speak to the father with an appropriate tone so the situation didn’t escalate any further. However, when dealing with child protective services and the foster care system in the beginning was difficult dealing with certain parents and situations I would consult and discuss difficult cases with my field instructor and other staff members within the agency. I have spent a lot of time out in the field with a foster care worker who like me has a young child at home and I felt it was easy to talk to her about how I was feeling and she was able to relate to me and give me excellent advice to be able to handle difficult clients. I also felt that our liaison meetings where helpful to hear other students thoughts and experiences in there DHHS placements to know that I was not the only one seeing and dealing with some very difficult clients/cases. I believe that these resources and support was very helpful for me to handle and treat each …show more content…
I struggled with this competency because again there are a lot of different of Asses Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations and Communities in my area. I was able to attend a few family team meetings and help with the intervention plan however, in the beginning not being fully aware what was available out there to different clients made it difficult to have a lot of different ideas. With developing service plans for clients there is just so much information to go into them is what made it difficult for me. DHHS uses a computer system called MISACWIS which from the beginning I have been told is not always the easiest to navigate through which is the truth. When trying to look up client information or do background checks or CPS history it was difficult at times to navigate through the system. I spent down time going on to misacwis and looking

Some students don’t like dress code because they think it doesn’t affect their learning and it doesn’t allow them to express themselves. Students seem to ignore the fact that the dress code is there to make the environment easier to learn in, so that students would not be distracted by what other people are wearing. Staff at Gale Ranch makes sure students follow the dress code by making them go to the office, and change into PE clothes.…

Being a nurse does not mean that you simply take vital signs or give medication to a patient, being a nurse is being a caregiver, an educator, a patient’s advocate and much more. There are many components that a nurse should meet or should be able to accomplish. The Mississippi Nursing Competency Model is a model that allows nurses enhance their education and practice, also facilitates articulation across nursing education programs and allows employers to know what are the different skills performed by the different educational degrees. The competencies include: patient-centered care, professionalism, leadership, systems-based practice, informatics and technology, communication, teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality improvement and evidence-based practice. Because this was my first clinical experience, there were certain competencies that I was not able to either accomplish or I accomplished very little, like leadership or…

These competencies are influenced by knowledge, skills, attitudes and values of those involved in the health care team (CIHC, 2010). When we meet these competencies we are then able to come together and work efficiently as one team of health care providers. I value the concept of collaborative practice, as it has a direct and positive impact on my client. As health care professionals, our focus should be on health outcomes of those we care for. Therefore, we need to seek guidance, understanding and support from other health professions to meet our shared end goal, which is the wellness of our clients, their families, and the…

These professional standards guide the application of ABA (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007). I have worked in the social services field for most of my life and ethics have been a frequent topic of discussion in staff meetings or training workshops. When I began in the field, I did not have an understanding of the term “ethical” behavior. I just knew right from wrong, but that was the extent of it.…

Book Review The Essential 55 One of the earlier rules I found vital for first grade students to follow is rule number two, “Make eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times. If someone makes a comment, turn and face that person” (Clark, R., 2003, p.1). Teachers would find this rule to be an effective confidence booster when trying to communicate with one or more students.…

Many people don’t realize entering into the field that you are examined from head to toe, from the first time you set foot into the building you are apply to or simply a job you already work at. Things like your appearance, the way you conduct yourself, and your facial expressions. I think that having students dress to their profession is a fantastic idea! It is a great way to help students acclimate from the college environment to the professional environment. The most important shifts in my thinking about ethical practice is knowing how to enhance the quality of developing the skills and knowing your worth. Ethical Practice refers to the standards of professional conduct that an industry professional is expected to uphold. I feel as though, the way I view things from others people is different. For example, I don 't find anything wrong with giving advice or suggestion in a counseling setting or therapy session. But I learned that it 's unprofessional or unethical to give advice to a client because in our profession our job is to help clients discover their issues or problem to be resolved.…
