Like a large bowl, the Union had a large and urbanized area and more developed equipment than the South. Over the years the Confederacy shrank, was beaten down, weakened, and lost population. On the other hand, the Union had a strong military force and advantages. Also, many soldiers died from medical injuries rather than dying on the battlefield. Large numbers of soldiers were beaten down like the milk, butter, and eggs from wounds and diseases.
The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point in the Civil War. Robert E. Lee stirred things up by invading the North. Previously in May of 1863, Lee won a victory over the Army of Potomac. Stimulating with self-assurance, Lee invades the North hoping for a great outcome for the Confederacy but, the results were not like that. The Union fired on the Confederates from behind stone walls. Captured from both sides, most of the Confederates survived, but many came scrambling back. Even though after this the Confederates would win other battles, this battle turned the Civil War into the Union’s
