According to the Interactive Session on Turner Broadcasting and e-commerce on pages 381-382 of textbook, Information systems in global business today. Management Information Systems (11th ed.), the study reviews Turner Sports New Media, which is the sports division of Turner Media and Turner Broadcasting System, TBS. This paper will discuss the unique features of e-commerce, how the Web enhances the TV business and adds value, why NASCAR TrackPass is a good example of Turner Sports New Media’s value to sports league sites, and why Turner Sports New Media will continue to grow. (Laudon and Laudon)
We begin with exploring the unique features of e-commerce technology illustrated in this case. E-Commerce technology refers to the use of Internet and the Web to transact business. Turner Sports New Media has established itself as an innovator through its ability to combine TV and the Web more successfully than rivals, including selling more ads, more advanced innovations to enhance the viewer’s experience, such as including an application TrackPass, a premium service that has several interactive applications under the TrackPass heading like TrackPass Scanner, TrackPass PittCommand, and TrackPass RaceView. These unique applications add value allowing paying customers and fans of all ages for a service that enables them experience the racing circuit like never before. Like all businesses, e-commerce is no exception is attempting to learn about customer’s buying habits. According to an article called Why are stores waiting until checkout to ID, on the RetailWire website, currently, most traditional retailers learn about customers at the point of sale however, online retailers, through various technology tools such as browsing history and tracking, including such digital mechanisms like cookies, are able to identify their customers and therefore offer better interactivity and better quality information to buyers by personalizing a customer’s shopping experience to specific individuals. (RetailWire) Interactivity allows an online merchant to engage a consumer in ways similar to a face-to-face experience, but on a massive global scale. (Laudon and Laudon) Originally, a website was nothing more than a 2.0 version of a brochure. In 2003, a Prada spokesperson was quoted in the Wall Street Journal as saying: “Web selling seems more appropriate for basic apparel, not high fashion.” (Entrepreneur) It appears this spokesperson’s comment was off the mark based on the way of thinking in 2003. From looking at this case, we can see how the Web enhances the TV businesses for companies discussed. First off- we know that e-commerce technologies are interactive, meaning they allow for two-way communication between merchant and consumer. Television is a broadcast medium, and cannot ask consumers and questions or enter into conversations with them,

However, neither the Orioles nor the Nationals have significant national popularity and therefore would struggle to compete with all 28 other teams. The Orioles are ranked 23rd and the Nationals are ranked 29th in MLB in Facebook likes. Regardless of ones feelings about Facebook and whether this data makes up a scientific poll, it is a fact that this data is typically used and given weight in court cases. As there are many games occurring at a given time, it is unclear what significant advantage a cable broadcaster would gain by purchasing the rights for every team and it is impossible to broadcast all games on basic cable due to channel limitations. It is far more likely that broadcasters would be interested primarily in teams with a strong brand like the Yankees, Red Sox and Giants while only being interested in broadcasting a small subset of Orioles and Nationals games and therefore that MASN, the Orioles or the Nationals would earn minimal extra revenues from other markets.…

In the same survey, 55 percent of Daily Fantasy Sport players have been found to consume more sports content because of their competition in their Daily Fantasy Sports leagues (Feinstien). This increase in consumption can lead to major television networks, like the NFL Network, to make more money from increasing viewership. This may lead major networks to fight against the banning of Daily Fantasy Sports, because of the increasing viewership. While the increased viewership helps the television networks, it also assists the professional sports leagues themselves. The main subject that I’ve chosen correlates to regulations being changed in regards to payment of college athletes. I would focus my attention on the NCAA governing body, government and the public in a persuasive paper to achieve a wide-ranging group of onlookers who may have a concern in this matter. I chose this subject because in light of the facts of this issue I accept change in how the NCAA view amateurism needs to be modified. Additionally, how its governing body should compensate the student-athletes for their services while in school is necessary for today’s landscape of big-time college sports. I likewise have a son who participates in college athletics, and I wish to help encourage change.…

Dreamed of being in the big leagues, of thousands of fans cheering your name from the stands? It seems impossible to most; believing that to achieve the impossible you must specialize in a sport. Truth is that, “the best medically, scientifically, and psychologically recommended way to develop such all around athleticism is ample free play and multiple sport participation as a child”(O'Sullivan). Training for one sport actually does more harm than good. Specializing in a specific sport before Middle School/High School increases the risk of injury and burnout, and amplifies parental pressure.…
